Northridge4x4's Marketing director Malo Castro has started building his 2018 Sting Gray JLU Rubicon. Here are the highlights from our Northridge Nation blog site.

Malo's 2018 Sting Gray JLU Rubicon Build:

Another 2018 JL joins our ranks here at Northridge4x4, this one is a Rubicon Unlimited in the Sting Gray flavor and belongs to our Marketing Director, Malo Castro. He has been with Northridge4x4 almost 6 years now and this is the third Jeep he has owned since becoming part of the NR4x4 team.

First Mod: sPOD Bantam
Push-Button-2.jpg

Knowing that we were going to stuff all kinds of cool stuff into Malo's Rubicon, the first thing we wanted to do was to install a sPOD Power Distribution Module in his Jeep, so that all add-on electrical wiring is easy to keep organized.

The sPOD bantam is the newest and smallest power distribution module that sPOD offers. Check out the How to Install sPOD Bantam in Malo's JLUR.

What we used: sPOD Bantam HD Panel - 84" Leads

Second Mod: Rigid Cubes Lights on Artec Brackets
Dual-Rigids.jpg

With the days going shorter and the nights getting long, Malo wanted to add some auxiliary lighting for those nighttime backroad excursions. The Artec A-pillar brackets make it easy to mount dual cube LEDs in a protected location on his JLUR.

Third Mod: Rugged Ridge Multi-Mount System JL

RR-Mount.jpg

Malo liked the Rugged Ridge Multi-Mount we put in Meg's JLU Sahara so much, we got one for his Sting Gray Rubicon. He has been playing with different mounting systems and electronics to see just what he can get to fit. His recent go-to set-up has been his GoPro 7 and iPhone 10 mounted in place.

Fourth Mod: Under The Sun Grille Insert
Push-grille-on.jpg

Wanting to add a little flair to his JLUR, Malo had us install a Under The Sun Grille Insert on his Rubicon. The UTS Grille Inserts install pretty quickly and it's an easy way to set your Jeep apart without resorting to Angry Eyes.

Fifth Mod: N-Fab Nerf Side Steps

Making the JL easier to get in and out will make sure Malo's family doesn't mind that he wants to take his JL every time they go somewhere. These aren't super high-clearance rock crawler side bars, however they will protect the rockers from the basic hazards and will handle basic off road trail riding just fine.

Sixth Mod: Rugged Ridge Floor Liners

Protecting the carpets from dirt and debris is a huge bonus in keeping your JL in tip-top shape. Rugged Ridge's Floor Liners are a quick and easy way to help keep the inside of your JL clean.

Will the grill insert with more a more narrow grid of holes affect engine temperature?

@2015er, the manufacturer, Under The Sun, claims they are designed to allow proper airflow. The winch and whatever lights we stuff up front would probably be bigger issues than anything else.

We installed a Warn Elite All Width Winch Bumper and a matching Warn Zeon 10-S Winch on Malo's JLUR right before the 2019 Easter Jeep Safari Week. Though he didn't have to use it, it was peace of mind to have the winch on his JL for that week in Moab.

You can see the How-To Install here: Warn Elite Winch Bummper and Zeon Winch.

Malo ran the S&B Filters CAI for about 7500 miles, we then swapped it out for an aFe Power Cold Air Kit.

No reason other than we wanted to give the aFe unit a try and he is the only one of the crew with the 2.0T in his JL. It's a daily driver and Malo says he really doesn't notice a difference between the S&B or the aFe Power CAIs.

This is also the first of our new video series on our YouTube channel. Check it out and let us know what you think:

You can find the aFe Power Momentum Cold Air Intake here:
With the Pro-Guard 7 Filter

With the Pro 5R Filter

With the Pro-Dry S Filter

New to the Jeep world, just out of curiosity, what is the benefit of installing the aFe Power Cold Air Kit?
