Frank with a PH. How can I cross reference my finiganthing with my springs to lower them to its max level without rubbing the tires, by the way tire size will be 33/12.50r20 and I will have a flux capacitor on my struts. Thank you guys for all the help! Tell next time, ENJOY!!!
What is finigathing? Is that slang or an actual work?

Sorry guys I am new to the wrangle life. Never heard the term poke before, but I get what it is. The wheels I have are factory, boring! Yes I want something with an offset to give me that poke. Not much, maybe 1”. And the limit % I was referring to was the 3% not to exceed, don’t want to mess with the Speedo and miles reading.
Poke is an internet term that is used to indicate when a wheel sticks out past the fenders.

Offset is what determines how much of a wheels width is moved off center. A wheel hub can have more of the width to the inside, like your stock wheel which is probably +44. As the center of the rim part of the wheel moves outward, the number gets closer to zero. Zero means that with a 9" wide wheel, 4.5" of the rim is on either side of the hub. As number becomes negative (i.e. -12), then more of the wheel sticks out. Get to -42, and it starts to get pushed way out there. Those negative offsets are useful for high lifts and large tires.

You will want a wheel with just 5 lug holes, and that is hubcentric, meaning that the center bore of the wheel is made to fit the hub perfectly. Using a multi-fit wheel with 10 lug holes is not good. They are usually cheaper, because they are made to fit several different vehicles okay, and not one particular vehicle well. Dual lug pattern drilled wheels are more prone to vibration and breaking.

The more simple the design, the easier it will be to keep clean, and the longer it will look good without becoming dated real quick. Complicated designs also create a lot of places for the finish to fail. They look a lot better on the wall at the shop selling them than they do on the Jeep. Don't buy wheels without at least looking a pictures of them on several different Jeeps. Custom Offsets has a good website with lots of pictures. They list the tire size on the wheel, wheel size and lift size with each picture, so you can get a better idea of what you're seeing.

To KISS, 1 in is ~25mm, stock wheels should be 44mm offset, so 0 offset wheels would stick out 44mm or ~ 1 3/4 in more, ~20mm range ~ 1 in etc. measure how much you want and do the math.

Depends on the Fenders. A Sport/Sahara will have over an inch sticking out at -12. Rubicon/24+ Willys/anything XR will have wider fenders.

Sometimes these decisions can be rough. Its like, when I go into a gas station and they have those big pickle jars on the counter. I can never decide between the kosker or the Gherkins. Its a real dill-emma.

That’s why I said measure what he wants. If he had a Rubi I would have told him 12.50’s- stock wheels the tread is even with the fenders, 0 offset even with XR extensions. I don’t know the others or even if his 20” wheels are 44 mm. He can determine his wants and needs 😉
I should have said to look at the back of his wheels and verify offset, I did ass u me with should be 44 mm.

Do you guys have any idea what he means?

without crossing the line of limit of the max % permitted.

looking to go to the largest size I can with passing the % limit.
He's from Long Island, it's probably some stupid New York law that he just assumes we're all aware of.

I love how at the end they're like, "get a rope!":devil::captain:

Haha!

I remember those commercials. It was a local company back then. The next commercial would likely have been for Ranch Style Beans, Wolf Brand Chili, or Lone Star Beer.

It's Trail Rated, so 42" tires will fit no problem. You could probably even run a 44" but they might rub a bit at full flex, depending on the offset of those 20s.

Would you happen to know what offset I would need for an unlimited model to get a 1” poke?

1. All wranglers are “trail rated”.

2. HTF is a vehicle on oem 20s and street tires considered “trail rated” by jeep?!

High Altitude- again this is my first Wrangle, it was picked by my 9 year daughter from the show room floor. In her words “ daddy I want this monster truck with big wheels on it”
I’ve always owned Grand Cherokee summits and SRT’s.

Does this make any sense?
I think someone mentioned you can do fit any size wheels on there. Can the wheel size be reduced to 18” from 20” and instead of 55’s tires use 60’s to make up for the dia? What out making modifications? In other words replacing the 275/55r20 with 275 or wider for a poke/60r18?

Tire width alone won’t get you there, you need the change in backspacing.

I just went from 255/70/18 to 285/70/17. It might have gotten closer to the fender lip with the increased width, but wouldn’t have had any poke on a factory type rim. Think Rubicon vs. Sahara from factory, still no poke from factory on the Rubicon and they are 285.

So you need spacers if going with an OEM wheel or a new wheel with greatly reduced backspacing/offset.

I don’t have a great before picture, but this hopefully helps. 1st is factory 255/70/18 on OEM 18x7.5 +44mm offset wheels. 2nd is 285/70/17 on 17x9 -6mm offset. If you wanted .5” less poke vs what I have, on a 17x9 you would get something with a +6mm offset instead.

Wheel width plays into offset, so keep that in mind and maybe focus on backspacing if you are looking at different wheel widths.
