Do you guys have any idea what he means?

without crossing the line of limit of the max % permitted.

looking to go to the largest size I can with passing the % limit.
For normal cars there are rules of thumb like don't increase tire diameter by more than 3%, but a regular car can't change gearing, speedometer, etc., so it's quite different. For a Jeep of course you can put 40 inch tires on if you upgrade the components.

Thank you. I, too, was clueless as to what OP meant.

I was thinking about doing 42” being that my car is not normal. Wise guy!
I don’t know what nothing about tire sizes or rims. So if my stock tire size is 275/55r20 considering the 3% what is the lager sizze I can use?

I think you guys are really onto something with 40's and 20" wheels. That seems to be the future plus think of the ground clearance.

I’m still confused. You want larger wheels (rims) or tires for your Jeep (car)? It sounds like you want larger tires but you stated “rims”.

You’re going to get a lot of flippant responses because most the people here off-road or want to appear like they do, and 20” wheels ain’t that. In addition, you leave out a lot of info in your question that can help us answer it.

Is it a pavement princess, or will it see trails? Do you have or plan on any other upgrades, or do you just want new and bigger tires (assumption) while keeping everything else stock? Do you care about the little things like top speed, acceleration, mileage, and braking distance, or are you just going for looks? What sub model do you have (e.g. Sport, Sahara, or Rubicon)? I’m sure some people here can say what/if any package comes with 20” wheels, but that’s not typical.

Using that rule, the largest you can do is 275/55r20 * 1.03 = 283.25/56.65r20.6

The 3% before it starts to tamper with the speedometer and the mileage.
If that’s all you care about, you can solve that for about $100 and go with any size you want.

Ignoring the fact that you called me a "wise guy" when I was trying to clarify, Jeeps aren't like regular vehicles. You can have a programmer adjust the speedometer and odometer to match a new tire size. You can put larger brakes to handle bigger tires. You can regear the axles to match the torque of larger tires. You can put a lift kit to fit larger wheels. So you can go a lot bigger if you're willing to spend money modifying the Jeep.

If you don't want to change anything? Then I wouldn't go larger than 275/60/20, as @The Last Cowboy told you. That's a 33" tire.
