I took off my rear bumper and am going to run without for a while. I made a bracket that mounts to the frame and have a couple of leds i need to wire in for lighting. I have the harness for the back up sensors I would like to wire into but save the harness if I decide to use the sensors in the future. Does anyone know which wires to tap into in that harness or where I can find that info?

All wiring diagrams are in this post: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jeep-jl-wrangler-wiring-diagrams.19185/

and that post is a sticky at the top of this forum: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...s-electrical-uconnect-a-v-cb-wiring-camera.9/

I may be replacing my bumper soon and will have to relocate my license plate, would you mind posting a pic or two of your wiring harness so I can see what I’m in for?

I relocated my license plate to the middle of the spare. I just ran wire right back to the wiring harness that the stock license plate light plugs into. I was not crazy about tying into very expensive LED tail light. It cost me about 4 bucks for wire. ran the wire through the frame across the Jeep up through the Jeep tub by the passenger tail light and then through the nylon cover into the tailgate ane out to the spare. It was a 15 minute job.

I found that there is a harness plug on the driver side that connects the parking sensors and the license light. After removing the bumper and having to completely pull apart my plastic bumper, i removed the sensors and the backup light from the bumper. I wanted to save the sensors in case I put a bumper back on so I used the harness and tied in to the license light and tucked everything in the frame.

Hey dude what wires did u splice into on the passenger side for your license plate lights? I want them to turn on either if I’m in the “auto” position or if I manually turn on the lights.

I tied into the stock wiring for the license plate light. That wire is located on the driver side rear bumper area. I ran the wire from the light into the tail gate, then to the tub, out to the bottom of the Jeep then under the Jeep through the frame to the drivers side of the Jeep. If needed, I can shoot a quick video and show you the route. Just let me know.

Thanks for the response brother…so I ended up figuring it out. I bought those LOD bolt lights. And I have so much wires spliced and tapped on the drivers side, I decided to go on the passenger side. As well as you I tapped / spliced into the passenger side OEM taillight harness rather than the Aftermarket Sequential LED tails I got from Quake…

So the wire diagrams on this site for a 2018 OEM, and others I managed to find are completely inaccurate…

I don’t recall completely but I was reading everything from the White / Orange, to White Brown, for the (+), and (universally and generally so) black being (-). Well (out of my own ignorance) I went with the OEM diagrams and yes, my lights worked, but it was a constant hot, & the led bolt lights were on 24/7, whether my lights were in the AUTO / ON / OFF position.

So to my better judgement I simply McGivered some Jumpers, and pulled out the ol Multi Meter, and tested every pin inside the Male harness clip.

It ended up being a wire that wasn’t even listed which I believe was a Creamish color / Burk Orange wire ended up being the (+) I wanted to tap into directly beside a lime green wire. Then just spliced into the black (-), to the bottom left where there was the black and the white / yellow.

It all worked out. But a 20 mins job for splicing & running wire took close to 2 hours simply out of my own ignorance and trusting a diagram. Should’ve just pulled the multi meter out in the first place and tested before running into nonsense.

Like I said I figured it out, but I do appreciate you getting back and offering to lend a hand

Sorry it has been raining like crazy. I can not make the video short enough to make sense. So here come pics

the wiring for the license plate is located at the rear driver’s side. I tied in to it like shown. You lay have to remove some plastic to see this. In the pic you can see the top of the shock to the left and to the right a body mount. Most likely you will need to pull back your stock fender liner.

Then I ran the wire over the fram and zip tied it to the frame cross bar that the hitch it attached to.

Then feed the wire up through the passenger side rear tub into the tail light area.

Inside the back of the Jeep, you can access the plastic nut that holds the rear tail light where I am pointing. It is a cover that you remove to get to the bolt .

It is a 10mm.
Then you can pull the passenger rear tail light to feed the wire into the back of the Jeep after you remove the rear sub housing.
The housing has a screw you need to remove.
It is in a 20 torque bit. It is located toward the rear passenger door. You can see it in the pocket areaat the right lower corner of the pi

Then there is a piece of plastic that holds the housing together where the seat belt goes in that needs to be removed. A plastic pry tool or use your fingers to pull it up.

Then you need to remove the three bolts from the floor area for the tie down loops to free the bottom of the housing. Sorry no pic of that. Should be easy enough to understand.

I opened up the cloth sleeve and pushed the wires through to the tail gate. Note this is done after you remove the tailgate panel.

You can easily remove the tailgate panel by just pulling it off by the passenger side bottom corner.

Then follow the other wires out the tailgate holes or via one of the vents.

If you have questions don’t hesitate to ask. If you want to call me with questions send me a message and I will give you my phone number.
