I love steelies on Jeeps and will be in the market soon.
Who's running steel out there and can you post a picture(s).
So far I like the Mopar winter wheel the best but, expensive for a steel wheel.

Nice.

Also, I be afraid a real M2 would shake a JL apart.

These have been on there a while. They work fine. Note, I mounted and balanced them myself (even with black weights only in the center and inner rim). In three years, they still don’t vibrate (I’m anal on balancing). I also ditched the OEM lug nuts with just black ones. I hate swelled nuts (make joke here).

So I can tell that those of use who appreciate steel wheels are definitely in the single digit %.
Not alot of love for the steelies has shown up here over the last 5+ years.
Bring back the steel wheels!

I would have gone with a matte black steel wheel if it had been an option when I ordered. I opted for the Granite Crystal wheels as the closest option I had. Now, once it's time for new tires I'll have to decide whether I want to go with a new wheel as well. If I do it will be either a matte black or a bronze wheel.

It’s not that I have an issue with steel wheel aesthetics, it’s more a durability thing for me. To be near the same weight, there’s something like a third of the metal in a steel wheel. Stack that with the likelihood of bending, and it’s an easy choice for me.

There are steel style alloys that could be a good compromise.

Steel wheels are very strong and they bend instead of cracking. You can hammer a bent steel rim back into good enough shape to function. You cant do anything on the trail with aluminium.

I have a method of hammering back steel wheels. First, take the tire off. Second, have the bent part on the top side of the tire changer. Third, get a brass hammer and then a thor like hammer. Use the brass one to beat on with the thor hammer. Move it around and I can get them pretty close.

Also, another issue is with aluminum wheels, is if it's some brand that in 3 years they change the design and thus you now need a wheel that is NLA. At least the steel ones are cheap and seem to have lasted the test of time for availability. Plus, there are garbage aluminum wheels that crack when bent while others will at least bend and you can keep going.

Good idea to use a brass hammer. I will add one to my kit for sure.
I have a set of STT pros mounted to jl base sport steel wheels that I swap to when lots of sharp rocks are in the forcast.

I have Sport steelies on my Sahara and love the look, but currently debating whether to go with a somewhat lighter alum wheel.

I think they look pretty good.
Thanks! I agree it looks great like this, and only considering a change to upgrade my tires from the current Rubi size to a pizza cutter 35 (255/85 MT BB ATs) and an alum wheel would probably balance out the increased weight from the tires somewhat. My mpg is bad enough as it is and I really don't want to have to stop for gas more often...

it's all just speculation at this point anyway, as I need to secure some more work before having to make a decision ?
