I’m a first time jeep owner. I haven’t been taking my soft top fully down much because taking the windows out and putting them in is such a pain, but that’s the way I’d ideally want to ride around in it 24/7 (assuming no rain, of course). Does anyone leave their top down in their garage? I feel like it would make life so much easier, especially if I want to take the doors off, but I’m just worried about things like lizards and bugs making a home in my Jeep ?

I put the top down and doors off in February and leave it like that until October/November (unless I need to put her back together and then it’s right back into summer mode). I keep my windows in the Mopar bag under the guest room bed.

My soft top stays down from March until November. Will have a spider pop out of the dash at me every once in awhile, but nothing else that I am aware of. :like:

Sudden rain doesn’t happen in Sacramento. I work from home and plan my Costco/Whole Foods runs around the forecast in the early spring and fall. If all else fails, I can put the top in Safari mode.

I leave the top down and folded almost all the time. Often have the doors off and my Jeep is always outside. If it’s light rain forecasted, I will put the doors back on and run it in safari mode when it starts raining. I don’t often put the side windows on, but I do keep them in the Jeep (stored in a BJD Customs Bag). I also run a JTops that does good in short light showers and can still see through it. The boot cover is by Smittybilt, I need it because I run the Diabolical system that doesn’t allow the top to lock down and helps secure it down.

I will say, I do get lots of frogs under the windshield beneath the wipers. I always make it a habit to clean their dead bodies out every so often.

Nice deal for you guys, keeping the top down for 6 months. No chance of doing that in New England...lol.

My TJ hasn't had a soft top in 9 years. I keep it in a carport on the side of the house and occasionally find cat hair in one of the seats. No problems with mice or other critters (maybe because of the cat?). JL is.my daily driver so the doors and rear windows stay on until the spring rains have changed to predictable summer afternoon thunderstorms and I can put it in the garage as needed.

Used to take the top and doors off my JK for weeks or longer at a time in FL with no garage and had no issues. Would get a downpour from time to time, let it dry out, no problem. Eventually I got a cab cover which helped a lot with the rain ;)

We have a TJ soft top which is garage-kept year round. We take the top down when weather gets warm (Spring) and it stays down all summer. Goes back up in the fall. We have never had any critters invade it.

Congrats on your first jeep.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, you could look at buying a BestTop Sunrider. We get sporadic rain showers all the time and so I need an ability to close mine quickly, but I like the top off most of the time. I also have cats in the garage so I like being able to put the top back on in less than 30 seconds. By far one of my favorite Jeep mods.

Since I don’t know what you have, they do make one for the JK as well. Make sure you upgrade to the more expensive of the two. it’s worth the extra hundred dollars by far.

if you have a two door, then that’s a different deal. They do make a complete soft top as well. it will take longer than the 30 seconds it takes with a Sunrider :)

We just vary based on weather, if the weekend looks nice we'll leave doors off and top down in the garage. If we have rain in the forecast, I'll put it back together.

I'd just do some extra spraying with Ortho in the garage to knock down the bugs.

Depending on where you are in Florida, I'd think you'd want to be able to get some rain protection quickly for afternoon showers and the pop up storms.

We run the Bestop Duster when the top is down or in Safari. It does a reasonable job of rain protection with the doors on and windows up. The duster uses the same tailgate bar and side attachment systems as the soft top. Goes on in a minute or so. We also keep the windows in the Jeep if we're on a trip, or it looks iffy.

Appreciate the suggestion. I have a 2022 JLUD I can just put it in sunrider position but it’s not quite the same
