And don’t get me started on dealerships. I’m sure plenty are wonderful, but in Southern California, it’s like, let’s do the least amount as possible and make the customer feel completely inept. I’m sitting here now actually and have decided that unless it’s a huge warranty issue, in the future I’ll just have my local mechanic do the work.
If you were closer to Orange County, I would recommend Huntington Beach Jeep. They have treated me right. I even took mine is for a XM radio cut out issue, the confirmed it was an internal error and ordered me a new radio and the new one works great and software was newer.

No, mine is US, but even if you upgrade to OEM, it doesn’t update and you lose some functionality. I’m really starting to regret doing the upgrade. I don’t like having a brand new car where some things just don’t work right. It’s the OCD in me. I literally had to put black tape over the red lights for the assist and emergency buttons because since I changed the radio, those buttons stay red. I kept my old radio in case I wanted to put it back.
I get the OCD part! Drives me nuts when things don't do what they are supposed to.

From what I have been told, my new radio head will not automatically update since it's not the original unit. :( That's a bit of a bummer, but at least I eliminated the ancient Canadian firmware.

I did not lose any functionality by swapping heads. The assist & SOS lights aren't illuminated on my buttons. I doubt that I will attempt any firmware updates in the future.

I will still keep them in mind!! Good to know there is a good dealership sort of close by. I wouldn’t mind driving down to HB if I HAVE to!?

Wait, what? You still have your guardian services even though you changed your radio?!! How? I’ve been trying to resolve this issue with no success. I’ve contacted uconnect and Guardian, and nada. Zilch! It’s like I’m being punished for making the upgrade, which I only did so that I could get XM radio.

I am not subscribed to Guardian Services so when I pushed the Assist button, nothing happened other than it turned red until I turned the engine off and the head powered down. But when I tapped the SOS button, it started dialing someone! Freaked me out while I was trying to figure out how to disconnect the call before anyone answered.

My guardian service still worked after HB Jeep changed my radio. Might need to get a good dealer involved.

Why did my update go to 34.32 and others on here went to 41 plus?

Those functions disappear because they are related to UConnect. You have an internal SIM card that must be activated and tied to those features. Only if a warranty replacement is occurring will the dealership ensure those functions remain (not always, sometimes they just get it wrong). So if you upgraded from 7" to 8.4", it's not going to happen. If you have an overhead switch that is lit up, you can replace it with the airbag only version.

???
Oh man, that’s hysterical! I’ll have to see what my buttons do now. I haven’t tried in a while! But my app doesn’t work anymore nor does the location of my Jeep. Keeps showing way out in the middle of nowhere!!

Such a bummer!!!! Thanks for letting me know. I mean, I have been told that, but I was hoping I could get it to work one way or another.

I swapped 8.4 to 8.4. The head that I purchased came out of a 2023 Gladiator.

I called Uconnect, emailed RamCares, etc. - you would think they would want to make money. Nope, only get it from the factory.

That’s exactly what I said!!! I was willing to pay whatever for it so that I had the full functionality of my brand new Jeep. Had I known this, I would have never bought it with no Sirius XM and the 7”. It was the only V6 with the cold weather group in the immediate area and didn’t think it would be a big deal to swap it out as long as I stayed with the OEM. I’ve had this discussion with a lot of people that are in the same boat. What a shame there isn’t a fix for this.

So you have a unit with a SIM that is active for SOS purposes, just like any phone, regardless of the service provider or subscription, can dial 911.
