Planning to attempt my first mod involving electricity. Is disconnecting the negative to the main battery enough?

I was pretty sure someone here mentioned needing to disconnect the Aux battery also. (Felt like it was in a thread I had created or directly in response to one of my comments. Also thought I had bookmarked it. But I can't find it now.)

Thank you!

Good question.

Oh...you mean with the Jeep.
Installing aftermarket aux switches. (To be used with a couple pod lights for now.)
Just a standard aftermarket relay/switch, or a switch system?

Disconnect the POSITIVE cable at the battery, leave the Negative Cable on. When you do that the Negative cable sucks the latent electrical charges out of the vehicle. You will need to restore some settings and the embedded machine codes will take over your ECM and install a fresh set of tables. They will upgrade after about 25 starts, you are not likely to notice it.

WHAT is it you do not understand? I thought I was accurate in the procedure I have used for the past 20 years...

Do it YOUR WAY!

@OldJeeper

Not wanting to argue .... but, no way with a JL or JT would I do it that way. I encourage other's not to do it your way!

What you have done for 20 yrs. is something similar, I myself have done for even longer.... as I too am also an old fruck...

... but with a JL or JT, I do not do as I did with other past model year Jeeps. I know it is prudent to do the deed differently when you deal with a JL/JT.

Easiest and more prudent way
to do a total 12v power kill on a JL ir JT, is as explained/pictured, in the image I posted earlier. (Yes, there are other ways)
--->You leave the positive Main bundle alone and disconnect only the Main's negative bundle. Then you separate / disconnect each cable on the negative bundle you disconnected. Do that and you have a full 12v power disconnect on your JL/JT... and you did not chanceing blow a fuse in the high amp fuse array, etc..

Sorry for the side track. i am curious about the reasoning on removing the positive first on other vehicles. I was always taught (and that doesn’t necessarily make it right) negative cable, first off, last on. On a non Jl or JT what is advantage of removing the positive?

None. It is not the correct way to fully remove power from a JL or JT.

Yes, I understand. I was asking about a NON jl or JT, and wanting to understand the reasoning.
