Had this issue before where my fobs wouldn’t lock or unlock the vehicle and I had to use the physical key to get into the Jeep.

Last time I disconnected the (-) battery terminal and it solved the issue.

trying to figure out the root of this problem though, if I point the fob to the rear taillight it will unlock and lock the car but if I don’t point it there, I get no response from the key fob when I press the buttons on it. The ‘soft touch’ proximity entry does not work either but only sometimes on the rear door (I guess because the tailight has the module in it and it’s near by).

Such an odd issue that is super annoying that it has come back.

Anyone have any guidance on what this can be? I guess I’ll have to take to dealer since I remedied with disconnecting the (-) last time but now it’s come back.

thanks

Change your batteries. Theyre good for roughly three yrs and will die together. Weirdest thing lol.

Okay so update…

Yesterday, I had disconnected the (-) batt terminal for 30 min. Nothing was fixed immediately after and the only change was the Uconnect rebooted to a simplified version (this corrects itself during a ‘deep sleep’ shutdown of the vehicle). Anyway, this morning went outside, by habit I unlocked the car and boom, fobs worked. Moments later the amazon driver came by and delivered my batteries for the fob. What the hell, lol… so it works, great! But what’s the cause? Could it just be an electrical gremlin that was reset from the (-) being unplugged and the system reset over night?

@WRANBO

For what it is worth, you undoubtedly, did not do a total 12v power kill on your JL.

Do change the battery on each of your fobs.

How to do a total 12v power kill on your JL:

Thanks for the diagram and feedback. Will remember in case I need to do this another time. Hopefully disconnecting the (-) didn’t cause any harm. So far so good though. I’ll go ahead and change batts.

Thanks!

Second update… just went to unlock the Jeep and the fobs don’t work again.. replaced batteries still nothing. Dealership it is unless anyone else has suggestions to solve this ghosting fob issue. Thanks

Any fix from dealer or yourself on this?

My 2019 JLUS 3.6L 6AT has done this to me twice in last 4 mos. First time I parked for lunch, actually had both fobs and neither worked. Came back 30min later and they worked. Happened again a few weeks later, self fixed overnight. Both instances were <32*F. I've pushed fuses down several times so that's not it. For about a year I've been getting key fob not detected intermittently and have to hold it at the ignition button and it starts. Oddly, most of the time it does this it's at our place in the mountains 1.5 hrs away (as in 18 of the 20 times I get the error). Very strange on the geographic location frequency.

I have determined that in my particular case my JL does this when my neighbours daughter’s car is parked beside it on the driveway. Their car must be emitting a signal that blocks/interferes my RF from the fob to the vehicle. I had a loaner 2022 Cherokee one week and I had the same issue. When her car wasn’t parked at her parents I didn’t have the issue. Weird!
