Hi all, was out sledding with my 5 year old today at a local park. When it came time to leave(my kid was soaked through) - my remote start wasn't working. As I got closer to my Jeep(19 JLUS), I noticed the door locks weren't working with the unlock button. I had to use the key to enter my jeep which setoff the alarm, which ran for a good minute until I took the Fob out of my pocket, and placed it on the dash, closed the door and finally the start button on the dash worked.

I noticed there was a new gladiator parked next to me when we were leaving. Any chance that new gladiator was keeping my fob from working? Fob worked fine when I got home and continues to work like nothing happened.

@3illy

I'd be more inclined to think your fob battery needs replacing.

Possibly the fob's battery .... about due to be replaced ....was not dealing with the NJ cold today.....
Batteries that are iffy lets say, perform poorly in the cold.

Wow, common sense prevails. Definitely get me some new batteries. What happens if the battery completely dies? Will I be able to start my jeep?

Yes. Just press the start button with the end of the key fob.

My Corvette would not start if I had my cell phone charger plugged in. EFI interference I think. I got a different charger and problem solved.

Well, if the fob battery "dies", you will have to open your JL /JLU /JT with the key on the fob and deal with the security / horn alarm as you did last time...

You'd get into the JL, and to start it, you would take the end of the fob that has the key attached to it and press that end directly against the JL's starter button while at the same time you are holding your foot down on the brake pedal.

The JL will start up and is driveable at this point.... until you turn it off and have to press the fob against the start button again to start it / drive it.

See the yellow arrow in the picture below that points directly to the RFID chip that is placed/secured into the end of the stock.

Were you to take that RFID chip out, you can use it alone, to start your JL..... you do not even need
the fob or circuit board/inner's of the fob anywhere near the JL.... just the chip, in your finger's pressing on the button is all it takes...

The code transmitted from the fob to the security module is matched to the vehicle at the factory is unique for each fob/vehicle pairing.

I have this issue too! Noticed it works everywhere but my home driveway. Did you sort out what caused it?

I assume it was the battery in the key fob losing charge from the cold conditions at the time. I replaced the battery and haven't had a problem since.

I have had weak battery issues in the cold on my Jeep and my Sprinter van. New batteries and problem goes away.
