I was told, by a dealer of course, that no manufacture recommends running oil over 7K miles. Then what's the oil life percentage for? Dealer BS?

The dealer has a vested interest in selling oil changes. So they lie to you in order to get you to buy more.

Dealers will say anything they can to get you to come in and spend more money with them. I never trust anything a dealer rep has to say, especially a service advisor. Always go verify with another source.

It used to be 3,000 miles for conventional oil but when synthetic started hitting the scene they were reluctant to extend intervals. Some old school guys will still change synthetic at 3,000-5,000 mile intervals. Synthetic will easily go 15,000 miles but the problem is not all filters are rated to 15,000. Certain brands will say 5,000 or 10,000 miles on the package. Some state 15,000 miles or more.

if you truly want to figure out your change interval then use an oil analysis shop like Blackstone to figure out your interval. The only thing about that is the cost of a test is about the cost of an oil change.

For my driving I can easily just follow the OLM. On my Audi it gets 7 quarts of full synthetic and has a change interval of 10,000 miles. I have 232,000 miles on it following a 10K change interval.

Follow the OLM, don’t follow it. That decision is up to you. If you choose to follow it, you will be fine. If you choose to change at a shorter interval….. you will still be fine.

someone (maybe the dealer?) needs to RTFM!

IIRC, the people that wrote the Users Manual even say that the maximum is up to 8K miles if you're using BioDiesel higher than 5%; otherwise the limit is 10K or when the Oil Change monitor comes on; whichever comes first.

you found a Dealer that knows more than the people who built the vehicle! ?

I’ll echo what others said here. I do feel that changing the oil around 7,500 mile is a wise idea if fueling up with B20 sometimes. Plus all the crap that the EGR cycles back into the engine, you end up with some nasty oil. Oil changes are so, so dang easy on these motors that doing them at a 7,500 interval is a piece of cake. That and I prefer to change the fuel filter more often, especially considering the CP4 fuel pump issues.

I’m an enthusiast and enjoy the process so it’s a personal preference and is up for debate as to the benefits. I’m no expert but I have formed an opinion that these things are better for the engine. YMMV.

Personally I do 5,000 mi oil changes and engine air filter cleaning, 10,000 mi fuel filter changes, and I'm about to do my first differential oil change at 30,000 mi, but after that first one I will proceed to do them every 20,000.

It's a small cost to keep your vehicle in nice working order. Save-A-Lot if you do it yourself though. ?

Oil changes take 15 minutes of actual work, about 30 minutes total.

i replace mine oil + filter at around 5k miles and the diesel fuel filter at every other oil change, air intake filter , i wash it every 3 months or so.. what the dealer/mnfctr recommends on all these new motors lineups, that no need to change oil until about 10k miles is BS all of it.
no mater what brand, castrol, mopar, Fuchs/Titan, royal p. motul etc, all have their limits of breakdown. All !

Can you share the Blackstone Labs, or similar competitor, test data to show 5k oil changes for the diesel is when we need to change it?

working on gas and diesel engines for over 27 years, the 5k is my own conclusion, my own preference, i have analyzed various brand of oils and the contamination over the years , the max a synthetic oil to breakdown , the viscosity is 7k , Elf , liqui molly and ravenol , that i am aware of for now
