I did not think I would ever like features like that, however I was wrong. In my 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk it had Auto wipers, and auto headlights (would even switch from high to low beams when a car was oncoming). The auto features ended up being way more convenient than I ever imagined, especially the headlights dimming. I will miss that in every car now. I rented a 2018 explorer, and was frustrated that I had to manually do that. In a Rubicon I’ll be fine as there are a lot of other benefits, but it would be nice. On anything else, it will be a requirement for me.
Coming from a vehicle with auto-everything, I welcomed the change. Once you are in 4-5 years and sensors start going it's just nice to have some things manually engaged.

I was wondering if Jeep had this; extremely happy it doesn’t. This technology has not been fully perfected yet. The system is way to overly sensitive and the controls to allow for less intermittent wipe don’t work well. This comes from first hand knowledge on two Mercedes models, ā€˜14 GLK350 and a ā€˜17 GLC300 also a ā€˜14 MINI Cooper Paceman John Cooper Works.

I work at Porsche and I can guarantee you, our rain sensing wipers work flawlessly. Some manufacturers just do it better, Porsche is one, as you would expect.

On my wife’s ā€˜17 Mercedes GLC300 the auto sensing works ok until it starts getting out of control, goes into hyper drive because it thinks you’re in monsoon conditions without any increase of rain intensity. Also in heavy mist it treats it like hurricane conditions and starts whipping the blades across the windshield.

I always wondered if the wiper blade companies are lobbying Mercedes to have it function this way to wear out the wiper blades quicker.

Auto wipers? I thought that having a Jeep that had a wiper motor was automatic. My 1943 GPW has a manual lever.

I agree 100%, even after less than a year I started to have some gremlins in the electronics. I was looking forward to the JL being much more simple, but seems like it has crossed over to more electronic too now, and less manual items such as steering, axle disconnect etc. I try to not keep our main vehicle more than a few years normally, but my JLUR will test that. I will either have a lot of issues and trade it in a year or two, or love it and keep it as a backup. I wanted the eco diesel, so I may trade for that once the platform is proven though.

Yes, another overly complicated system over time will break down and need expensive repair. I always remember the famous acronym, KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid.

This is the one feature that has never worked right on my mazda3. Glad it’s not on the JL. Best setup I had was on my ā€˜95 Jetta where you could select your delay manually. Simple and effective.

Hmmm...not perfected yet?!?! You mean we can land a probe on Titan or a moving comet or asteroid multiple billions of miles away from us but they haven't been able to perfect rain detection technology??? WTF?!?!?! Well, I never.........:swear:

My renegade had it, but I usually just set it to one of the set speeds, actually. It was way too random with the sensing. Eh... at any rate, I don't miss it. It's really not all that different in most cases than just setting a speed.

And here I was feeling guilty for upgrading to a Jeep that had temperature sensors to turn the heated seats and steering wheel on. My first Jeep didn’t even come with a back seat!

Depends on manufacturer.

My BMW had it and it was wonderful and never needed to be touched.

My Ram has it and the setting is never correct.

Score one for the Germans.

When it rains hard enough, I automatically turn on my wipers.

My JKU had Auto moisture wipers. When I walked to the Jeep I felt and sensed the rain and I automatically turned my wipers on when I started her up. :). Will guess my JLUR will be the same
