Remove the side steps and get some more metal added to that space.

If you do decide to swap out the steps and want some takeoff Rubicon rock rails, let me know. I have some new takeoffs from my 2021 JLUR.

Those side steps are tough as nails. I have slid sideways on the trail and hit trees with the side steps; they were impervious. And because they stick out, they protected my fenders, too.

The side steps bolt onto the pinch seams; same as the Rubicon rock rails. So while the rock rails look butch, at the end of the day they don’t really provide much more protection than these.

I have always wanted a Jeep wrangler and finally pulled the trigger....

honestly, if your goal is to have a DD and periodically do sand and snow without any modifications. i’d suggest leave it stock for a while to see how it feels, then make changes. seems like you might like the idea of mods in which case, the rubi take offs is definitely a great idea. i don’t think i’d invest the cash or weight in skid plates or rock rails if i was doing periodic sand/snow.

the other post was correct in that the sahara stock side steps have lots of utility.

enjoy your wrangler!

I figured I would start with the Mopar metal bumper for additional protection; the side steps look strong and if they break on a rock/tree I will know it's time for some rock rails!

Any other protection considerations? Thoughts on MOPAR bunper?

Can you give me more details on your build?? Tire size, lift, other upgrades? I love the stance!
HELO 904 Wheels, tinted bronze, 20x9, -12 offset.
295/60R20 Cooper Discover AT3 tires (34.1" advertised)

For ride quality you should go with 17" wheels, as all tires that are 33" or taller for 18"or 20" wheels seems to be rated E - heavy and stiff. Good for handling in the corners, puncture resistant, but ride rougher.

17" you will have no problem finding C rated tire in 33". To get the same look with 17s, get same offset wheels -12, (8 or 9 wide), with 285/75R17 tires.

I believe the 285/70R17 KO2 Runicon wheels are ‘B’ rated from the factory. Thanks for the great point on load rating! I was having issues when considering keeping my 18s

I am very sensitive to ride quality. There was absolutely no change in the ride quality when I swapped the OE 255/75R18 Bridgestone Duelers for E-rated 275/70R18 KO2s.

I found that increasing tire width --going over 285mm-- does more to deteriorate ride quality than going with a tire of higher load rating.

2.5 RC budget lift, 275/70 Falken Wildpeak AT3W on 18x9 Fuel wheels +1 offset. Rubicon express LCA and Rubicon express front track bar. Doesn't appear to be a common set up but I am happy with it and the ride is just as good as stock . As far as going from stock tires to E rated tires I could tell in the beginning the weight difference but after a day or two I could no longer tell the difference and the ride is great.
