Looking for jl rubi axle takeoffs to put on my 2022 diesel jl unlimited. I want the electic lockers, don't really want to change gearing, I run 35's. Yes, I probably should have bought the rubi out of the gate but this was my first jeep at 47 (i know, late in life right??) and I had to learn my lesson :) anyone have a line on a set if it's even a good idea

If you have a ecodiesel you already have Dana 44 front and rear axle.

You only need to get lockers and gears. Don't bother with the e lockers and go all in on ARB air lockers. While you are there just regear to 4.56.. you will love it and see overdrive gears effortlessly on highways

Thx for the note. Looked a ton at the arb lockers and watched some great detailed videos, I'm just not that skilled. I got a quote for $4500 for the labor to put those in , in addition to the parts. Maybe that's the best choice. I was hoping to do a drop in that I could handle on my own. Putting the lockers in looks super specialized to me.

Drop in axle replacement is not like an order of magnitude easier compared to diff work. Either ways labor time and cost is similar. Since you already have the axles, you end up spending less. You can even opt to lock just the rear first then the front later.. But then you are stuck with the stock gearing...

Suppose you get a Rubicon front only axle.. It will have 4.10 gears, so you invariably have to regear the rear to match the new axle. Why all that hassle.. install lockers, regear your done then.

The labor is $4500 to Install Lockers and regear? Or the $4500 covers labor and the parts?

I just did the swap a few weeks ago, the 4.10s arent to bad with the 38's im running, would be overkill for 35's but only gives you a reason to grab some 37's. Found some takeoffs on marketplace for $2800 and sold mine for $2500 in a few days. For the money this was the route best for me.

Ryan, if I were sitting on a non-Rubi diesel I would look at the Eaton Trutracs and 4.56. E-lockers are going to need wiring, air lockers will need wiring and a compressor. Trutracs works quietly and flawlessly in my experience. Put them in front and rear. The on road manners are perfect and off road they perform great. Plus the Trutrac was just released for the JL.

$4500 seems expensive for just the axle work. Does that include the wiring?

4,500 for just the arb locker install is high. Theyre charging you almost 40 hours in labor for that.

I just had an axle swap, gears, truss, compressor, and locker wiring done. Labor was 3,680.

It's was 7k for the lockers (no regear) and labor (4wheelparts). Maybe it was the pneumatic as well, but I installed that already for a pneumatic sway disconnect. Really appreciate the advice. Maybe I go back and get that quoted. Will look at the other options above as well. Thanks

I strongly suggest you have somebody other that 4wp do that work. My first jeep I had them put in a bumper and winch. I later found they left out parts securing the bumper and more concerning, left the hot wire laying up against the engine block. Would have burned my jeep to the ground if I hadn't found that. This forum is littered with stories of their failures.

Maybe $7000 if it includes air compressor, gears and rebuild kit. Labor for just lockers or lockers and gears should be roughly the same. Plus labor to route air lines, mounts, etc. my list from northridge shows $4366 in parts. Rough price. But that’s gears, lockers, arb dual air compressor , plus other parts needed. Before any discounts.
So that leaves $2600 in labor. $1000 per axle to install lockers and set gears and $600 to install compressor and route air lines.
It just seems a little high to me. But it might be more for labor in your area.

Loved the ARBs I had in my TJ. I'd find someone else to install them

ARBs are great, but I would say 99% of the people dont really need them. New Rubicon axles can be had for a bit more than 5K, used as l low as 2.5k, just saw a set for ~3k with regear and aftermarket steering. Your old axles are actually worth something unlike mine, so it witll lower the price even more. So my vote is for new axles. Wiring is easy, if you have AUX switches, its super easy. Axle install is an easy weekend job with a friend or a one day job if you actually try.

So that was my feeling as well but for the life of me, beyond the ones from totalled jeeps on ebay, I can't find a used set of 4.10 rubi axles. ebay / facebook / even this marketplace. Some 392's locally for 6k from a guy i trust with 4.88 gearing but that's a different beast I'm not sure I should get in to.
