I'd be fine with just bypassing it. On older vehicles I have just cut the 2 wires and patched them together. Will this work on the JLs or is it going to throw up a bunch of codes. If it does work do you know which 2 wires I would need to patch together
There are 2 clutch sensors on the JL. One is a position sensor. It's on the top of the clutch pedal assembly. The second is the interlock switch, which is more of the TJ style switch that is on or off.

Open the hood and find the master cylinder in the top drivers side quadrant of the firewall. Hidden above it, is the interlock switch. Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. It has a green/yellow wire and a black wire.
A permanent bypass, you could just ground that green/yellow wire, probably by connecting to the black wire there. I'm not familiar with how the position sensor works, but maybe connect the yellow wire to the brown/dk blue wire?

I’ve been watching the responses and have been researching as well. Looks like the clutch interlock bypass is straight forward to allow restart in 4low, but doesn’t address 4hi/2WD.

So I found another thread with a post by @Rico1111 and they provided some great technical information related to the clutch position sensor and how it relates to the interlock switch.

If I’m correct, it would appear that we may need to not only momentarily ground out the interlock but also trick the clutch position switch into thinking the clutch is depressed. Based on the below screenshot from the post, it looks like if we tap from the #3 pin (5v) and put a resistor to lower it to under 4.5v (perhaps 3.5-4 volts or so to get it in the acceptable range)?

So if you setup one switch to run two relays, one to ground the interlock and one to send the 3.5-4v into pin #4 on the clutch position switch should trick the PCM into thinking the clutch is depressed enough to turn the motor over regardless of what range the tcase is in?

Fair question, I was coming from a preventative measure perspective. It's not the water that I'm concerned about, its the debris that may get into the between the clutch plate and the fly wheel if you press the clutch while submerged in water/mud I was concerned about.
Do you mean like small sticks or pine straw?I personally have never heard of water crossing or mudholes causing clutch issues after 30 years of off-roading. 2 CJ's, A Trooper 2, and a JLUR that were manuals that have been in sand, Florida black mud. floods, trails, mudholes into the cab. My friends had had similar vehicles, as well. None of us have had that issue so I've never really thought about it before. I would be interested in hearing stories about who has had issues. I guess it is possible since the clutch is a dry clutch and isn't sealed. A quick search shows the pressure plate can exert up to 3000 PSI. In the same search it mentioned it take around 3500PSI to crush a human. Maybe that puts it into a different perspective.
