I am starting this thread to gather some information on this particular clutch pedal position sensor as there is no info I could find online at the time of writing. The sensor can be seen in this Transmission Manual 3.6L Wiring diagram.

Here are the main questions I am trying to answer:

  1. What does this sensor exactly do and why is it needed in addition to the existing Clutch starter interlock switch (68029261AA)?
  2. Is there a way to bypass it during testing and/or how would you test it?
  3. What is the procedure to replace it (maybe someone can extract it from the service manual)?

Thank you.

Nope, not yet. Luckily, my issue was in wiring, so I had it fixed without messing with this sensor.

What was ur wiring issue? I get error messages for this sensor P083F “problem clutch pedal position sensor a/b correlation” like once a Month so I don’t think it’s the actual sensor possibly a wiring issue. Thanks

That sensor feeds into to the PCM on clutch position, likely for emissions reasons.

One of the wires going to PCM was cut. I had to run a new bypass to make it start it again.

I am going to make some deductions based on what little I have seen/read about it here. It sounds like the position sensor is an analog sensor like the throttle position sensor. Meaning it is variable not simply on/off. It also sounds like it is two channel just like the throttle sensor. The two channels have to "agree" or an error/fault is declared. Usually they are inverse one signal rises while one falls, but, in proportional matching amounts. Lots of assumptions here, but this seems pretty likely.

Anyone got any info on this? I get “service ess” almost every time I drive my jl. The dealer said it was the clutch position error. They also said it would be 8 hours just to get to the part which is insane. I’d normally not care if it’s just a light but it also does not allow me to use my cruise control. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much Rico. So what I'm seeing from this is that the tech potentially told me that it takes 8 hours of labor just for them to remove the dash, but according to this tech diagram it is a .5 hr job. I will try and call the dealership and see what they say about this. I really appreciate it and hope this issue finally goes away.

Well there is a relearn process in the description that is done through the pcm so they may be using that (allbeit) lengthy time to do procedure. Approach with concern and not with an accusational attitude they may inform you of why the amount of time is 8hrs! Remember you get more bees with honey!
