For the non-Rubicon JLs, some have an ABS system applied to the rear axle brakes as a limited slip differential. This type system is commonly used on AWD cars and trucks with as an anti-lock braking system application to limit the low traction powered wheel from slipping robbing power from the opposite wheel on that axle. Is there any way to use the ABS on the front axle, when selected for appropriate use as with a Rubicon, or even making a full time AWD if not configured from the factory? Asking or a friend with a 2018 JLU Sport since I have a 2022 JLUR with factory lockers. BTW the Rubicon has a rear axle limited slip differential that when commanded will use the differential clutch pack for locking. A similar system is used on the front axle, without the limited slip, unless commanded.

All JLs have BLD or brake lock differential programming on both the front and rear axles, rubicon models are the same and its active if the lockers are not engaged.

So I'm not entirely sure what you are asking?

I'm pretty sure the Rubicon's diffs are open, not limited slip. All we have is BLD until you lock them.

As has been mentioned, the BLD is the ABS selectively applying the brake on a single wheel that is slipping.

The Rubicon lockers don't work the way you suggest. They are not limited slip differentials in any way and haven't been since the 2006 TJ Rubicon. They positively lock with an electric mechanism that fully locks the two sides together. When not locked, they are fully open.

The TJ used small air compressors to activate the locker and it had a separate mechanism from the LSD clutches to fully lock the axle.

The only limited slip that has a magnetic system to compress the clutch packs is the Auburn Gear ECTED, which I think has a new name now. I ran one for a couple of years. It was worthless as a locker. It never fully locked. It only added bias to the limited slip but still let the tire without traction slip.
