I wave at every Wrangler, and some XJs. I get a wave back about 50% of the time.

I don't care, though. I'm waving at the Jeep, not the driver.
And the Jeep waves back?

I thinking you're mistaking a "death wobble" for a wave... :)

Heal of the palm must remain in contact with the top of the steering wheel at all times during the wave execution procedure. Any amount of fingers quickly raised and then lowered from this position is an acceptable and proper Jeep Wave (except of course just the middle finger). Actual waiving gesticulations should always be avoided as it creates awkward confusion and is generally creepy between total strangers...

The exception is when doors are off. In this configuration, it is entirely acceptable to extend the entire left arm straight out of the Jeep, but making sure that the hand is below shoulder level. The lower the arm the “cooler” the wave. However, use caution with this technique on single lane roads as the oncoming vehicle could easily take your entire arm clean off.
Well, if you have the doors off and the hinge mounted foot rest / peg installed, does extending your toes count as a wave? :)

Hey fellow Navy dude. When you are not being your curmudgeon self, you are kinda fun. Like the post.

When I was a kid, we didn't have the internet or fancy online vehicle forums where we could anonymously insult one another. We etched 1's and 0's in the dirt with a stick, AND WE LIKED IT!
Hahahhahahahahhaaaaa....wait...so you mean you didn't have keyboard warriors when you was a kid??? LOL! :cwl::cwl::cwl:
I'm feeling this comment! Great post

LOL. I think the exact same thing. Also, I try to wait to the very last second and if they wave first, I wave super fast because I might be too late.
Had my first "Jeep Wave" today! I'm in a "country town" and a fellow Jeeper (in yellow) waved at me immediately and I was shocked with how fast he did it as we were quite a distance away! But I was able to get my wave and smile in! :like:

I wish I could've taken a longer look at his Jeep tho...suckah was modded and was sitting noiceee but we were passing each other, heading in different directions. I hope I get a chance to see it tomorrow before I head out; the town is small enough for that chance to occur.

Then I saw another Jeeper (in white) today and I waved at her and she didn't return the wave...it didn't affect me negatively at all lol. Maybe she didn't see me? Maybe she did and didn't want to wave? Either way.... ALL GOOD :giggle:

I must say I'm enjoying my Jeep more than I thought I would. It literally makes me giggle and smile when I see that green hood. I hope everyone's Jeep affects them in a positive way! Enjoy yall! :)

Ah crap! Lol. Mind you I wave too. I’ve been waving at every CJ, YJ, TJ, JK and JL that i see for 30 years. 17 of which are in the area I live now and I think I am slowly training people to wave back. Lol. Also, if someone waves to me first, regardless of what they are driving, I wave back because that is just the Canadian thing to do.
YUP!!! I was taught the same, from a very small age. It's stuck with me!

I'm probably going to catch some flak for this, but I think the practice needs to die. I find it incredibly lame. I won't initiate a wave and will rarely reciprocate. Just glancing through this thread, I imagine my view will very much be the minority (or maybe the lone exception!), but I have heard a lot of motorcycle guys say that they tire of the waving thing.

Plus, there are just too many Jeeps on the road these days.

Rumor has it that the aftermarket is developing a programmer (code-named Mallcrawler) that will enable the driver to automatically text a "Jeep Wave" emoji to all oncoming Jeeps equipped with Uconnect.

it’s not mandatory on either bikes or Jeeps. You don’t want to wave, don’t wave . Simple as that. But your whole statement, basically says I feel it’s lame and it needs to die. If it’s lame, so be it. But to state that something that doesn’t really affect you needs to die ... wow. Guess it’s your world and everybody else is just along for the ride.

Your take of it being ok if I don't wave back is fine. But I think too many get offended when one doesn't wave back (look at the title of this thread). In that instance I think it should die.

If you don't wave and the person gets offended, you're right and that's their problem. I get disappointed, but get over it in under 5 seconds.

HOWEVER the title of this thread is "Jeep wave gone bad," and the OP makes it clear that some chuckle head didn't skip the wave, but actually gave him the finger for waving. Wave, don't wave, that's your prerogative. But be careful pointing to this thread as evidence of some "vast jeep-wave conspiracy" when the purpose was to call out a true jerk.

I stand corrected on that - looked at OP again. However, there a number of posts criticizing people for not waving back.

Yep, true. I stand behind waving back, but you're MORE than entitled not to. Trying to force it or be judgemental about it undermines the value of the wave in the first place...

Hell, back then, we actually had to stand on our front porches to yell at the kids to get off our lawns. These days, we just create a WiFi SSID at our house named "GetOffMyLawnDammit".
