I rarely ever wave back. Few reasons...
  • I typically am not looking at the drivers of oncoming traffic
  • I view waving as a distraction. The less of those I have, the better.
  • My windshield has 30% tint. You can't see much from the outside looking in anyway.
  • Too many Jeep waves. I may would develop carpal tunnel if I regularly participated

Wife will wave at anything that looks like a Wrangler.

I'm old and cranky. So I only wave at the stuff that looks like it gets used the way I want Jeeps to be used. IDK how @ExpeditionBuilds keeps his looking brand new all the time despite seeing the rocks!

I automatically wave at modified Jeeps expect if they are sporting an angry grill. then I just burst in laughter. I return waves by stock jeeps when I see them but never initiate them.

I never wave at other Jeep models.

I wave if waved at. No mall crawlers though. Once a Mercedes 4x4 waved at me. Huh?

I'm no stranger to Jeeps. My first Jeep was a '89 YJ which I bought in '95. There were a lot less Jeeps on the road back then and everyone waved. Now I drive a 20 JLU Sahara pavement princess. Seems like everyone has a Jeep now and more than 50% don't wave. I kinda get upset that I don't get waves back. So, is there a hierarchy that you guys and girls have employed to who you wave to? Does a Compass or Renegade get a wave? How about a new Grand Wagoneer? Is it just Wranglers? I gotta say I shy away from waving to anything that's not a Wrangler and anything that is bone stock because those drivers just don't understand. Am I crazy?

1989 Wrangler, with an engine from a 1996 4.0 liter with fuel injection; a Ford 9 inch rear axle from a 1979 Lincoln Versailles with disc brakes, Detroit locker and 31 spline axles; Dana 30 front axle with axle disconnect eliminator shafts, bigger u-joints, ARB air locker and hub kits; a NV4500 transmission from a 1997 GMC pickup; a 4:1 transfer case modification; spring over axle conversion with 4" lift springs and 35 x 14.5 Boggers. All built by hand by me!
Absolutely love the YJ you built! I did very similar mods to an '83 CJ-7 back in the early 90's.
Your 9" rear-end reminds me of a funny story... my step-mom back in the day, had a '79 Lincoln Versailles. I always teased her that one day she'd go out into the garage only to find the rear axle assembly gone, and the rear of the car on blocks! ?
I went the D-60 route on my CJ.

? Soo- a newb who doesn’t know to wave, because he doesn’t get waves, because he doesn’t know to wave, because he doesn’t get waves, because he doesn’t know ……………. Just like he can’t get a duck, because he doesn’t have a duck, because he can’t get a duck, because he doesn’t have………………..

I have the same perspective when I walk at our near by trails, I always vocally say "Hi" and wave at passerbyers, 8 out 10 just look at you funny and keep walking, shit maybe it's me or my dog they don't like the looks of, who knows ?‍♂ . Now I wait for eye contact before waving, and it's still 50/50. I use to wave at all jeep wranglers, the issue is not about being a newb, if you see someone wave at you regardless, pull the stick out and wave back. Who cares about ducks.

I bought my 93 YJ in 95, I still have it. I drove that thing for many years with no top on it year round. It's still in really good shape. It's been in the garage now for years getting transformed, LS3, Atlas, Currie 60's, linked, etc. I used to get waves all the time in that thing back in the day.

For the non wavers...It takes more effort to sign into these forums then it does to wave at an oncoming Jeep. Especially to see one and then ignore it....?

This is for the sake of humor, so hopefully taken as such. But it sounds like if you DON'T wave, you're a clueless wannabe who's not driving a Jeep for the right reasons, but if you DO wave, you're a clueless wannabe who's not waving for the right reasons. :)
Sounds like it from some of these guys.

That's why I'll never wave to the douchbag elitist pricks that only take their Jeep out on sunny weekends and I'll never wave to the braindead clueless wanabee mall crawler commuters during the rest of the week. I know I'm the only real hardcore offroad Jeeper accidentally on the road that day and everyone else is a poser wimp, so that covers all my bases, right? ?

Please explain to me like I am stupid... What's with the tinted windshields? Here in CT it is popular and I am seeing more and more vehicles with it. I have my front doors tinted but just think a tinted windshield is asking for trouble, plus, how the heck do you see at night?

Thank you, sadly I don't own it anymore. Sold it to pay for my wedding! I miss that thing. Funny thing is, Ford 9" suck for wheeling. Too low but it was all I could get and afford at the time.

I’m in Santa Rosa County… culturally Alabama with the income tax. Lot’s of military, high level of weapon carry. Safe and excellent food (seafood, Southern food, Cajun food, BBQ, Soul Food, Greek food).
Agree completely, having been stationed in the Panhandle. We called it L.A., or Lower Alabama. Destin's white sands sure were nice...

I notice that women are not as likely to wave back.......?
What I've noticed is that distaff Jeep drivers either won't wave, or will enthusiastically initiate or return a wave. The contrast is plain to observe.

A new loaded 392 is $106,110, plus tax & lic (~$12K here) …….. You just might Reconsider, and wave back to G-Wagons ?
