Well, in preparation of my '26 Moab delivering, the '23 4xe has been sold.

$66k sticker price

$60k paid

$25k sold

Some serious depreciation! But, it is now in my rear view mirror!

After my wife and I left, she looked at me and said, "Can we agree to never buy another hybrid again?"
Wow. That is nuts. I was offered 25k on my 20 rubicon 20T with 92k miles this past Dec for a 25 rubicon x.

Congrats! Now repeat after me. "Lease a hybrid, lease a hybrid, lease a hybrid." You are welcome.

They can be good, they can be bad, they can be someone else's problem after 3 years.
This is the way. If it’s got a battery to make it go, lease only.

My Sonicare toothbrush is as close as I'll ever get to anything hybrid. Glad you at least got out from under it.

It’s a shame the 4xe didn’t work out. The thought of being able to limp off the mountain if the engine failed was a compelling sell point. But of course, Jeep designed a hybrid bar be que instead of a wheeler.

Meanwhile, driving a new 392 while gas goes to $6.00/gallon in 2026. Then again, that 392 power and exhaust sound has unlimited smiles per gallon.
In California we’re one refinery accident away from $10.00/gallon and rationing. It’s just a matter of when.

Jeeps still have strong resale value but of course depending on the platform. I bought my 2018 JLU Rubi w/2.0 turbo for $42k new, sold for $30k last August when I bought my 2025 w/same specs. I’ve never been a fan of electrification in any form but that’s just my personal preference.

Well there is the simple matter of OP, still pocketed $7,500 from the tax payers.

And as OP stated, the 4xe actually sells for $30,000

OP willingly left $5,000 on the table

And saved $20K buying the 392 Moab vs the 2024/2025 Final Edition 392.

My wife won't let me get rid of her 2024 4Xe. We purchased it new in 24 with no tax incentives (we didn't qualify for the rebate). It was still a pretty good deal at 15K off MSRP. She's going to be surprised when we trade it in one day. She loves the PHEV platform and loves her Jeep. So far her car has passed all recall testing and her battery is doing fine. I guess it will be fine if we can drive it till the wheels fall off...

Congrats! I know it doesn't really feel like a victory now, but in a few months you will feel a sense of peace and relief you never had with the 4xe.

Getting the 4xe was never an economic decision for me since electricity is expensive up here, so I'm not missing anything there. And the engine used to turn on to go up hills anyway, so the noise isn't even a factor. I just have to remember to hook the ICE up to a trickle charger if I don't use it for a week. (But that hasn't happened yet because it's so fun to drive that I keep finding excuses just to go out!)

That $12,500 factored in you're really only looking at normal 3 year old vehicle average depreciation. According to the online generic vehicle depreciation calculator a $60k vehicle should be worth $35k after 3 years. "Paid $60k"...minus $7500. Sold for $25k even though it's worth $30k. That tells me it was actually worth $37.5k which is $2500 more have standard depreciation despite all the 4xe issues. People are still holding on to the weird 0 depreciation in 2-5 years we were seeing after covid. No you shouldn't expect to buy a vehicle for $60k, get a $7500 tax credit, and sell it for $55k after 3 years even though many did during that time.
