Huge thanks to @tjeeper for the tip!!!

After you posted that I did some more searching and found documentation from Genie stating "Please check the date code and software revision stamped on the back. Software version 2.0.3 may not be compatible with all versions of HomeLink."

http://www.geniecompany.com/data/products/accessories/homelink-system_programming.pdf

Sure enough, my remotes were version 2.0.3. I ordered a new one and it came with 2.0.7 and I was able to program the Jeep HomeLink on the first try.

So I guess it was a bug... go figure

I've tried every set of instructions I've found in the manual, on YouTube, here in the is thread, and on the HomeLink site too. Nothing has gotten my HomeLink button to work. I though maybe it was due to the really old opener (on the right) so I bought a brand new one (on the left) and paired that one to the garage door opener, but still can't get that to work with the one in my JL. Maybe my Genie just isn't compatible? I've been unable to find info on specific compatibility. So frustrating. Thankfully, it's the my only complaint with the vehicle.

What is the version code on the back of the new remote? I beat my head against this problem for some time, but as soon as I used the new remote with version 2.07 it worked the first try. I assume you went through the steps in the genie pdf link I posted above?

The new remote is version 2.0.7. I missed the step about the green/red LED light. Mine is currently green, so I'll try it now that I've switched it to red.

Still no go. I've tried following the instructions in that PDF multiple times and it just won't sync. So frustrating!

Well one difference is that for me, I did not pair the new remote with the door. I just used it to program the button. Long shot I guess, but maybe try an unprogrammed button on the new remote to program the homelink in the Jeep.

It’s frustrating for sure! I feel your pain.

Finally got it!!! I guess I was doing two steps in the wrong order.
  1. Press the Start button in the Jeep to set it to "Run" but don't start the Jeep.
  2. Reset the Homelink button in the Jeep.
  3. Program the Homelinnk button in the Jeep to an unused button on the remote.
  4. Press the "Learn" button the opener and then hold the Homelink button in the Jeep.
Voila!!!

I was trying to program the remote button before the Homelink button. I think that was the issue.

There are compatibility requirements between HomeLink and your remote. Luckily for me, it took me about a minute to program it following online instructions.

I couldn't get my HomeLink to work following regular instructions. I have another vehicle that uses a handheld remote on the sun visor.
I ended up holding the handheld remote up to the Jeep's set of buttons. I held down the remote button while pressing the visor button. The LED indicator lights began to flash and then hold steady. The Jeep button then began to work correctly.

Anyone program a "Might Mule" gate/GTO Remote to one of the buttons on the visor of a 2019 Wrangler? Got figure it out.... It's sort of "analog" inside, has the 8 leavers you set to 4 positions each, then you actually program the gate to the remote.

It's been about six months since we did it I can't remember but it did take several tries. You definitely want to use it it's a nice safety feature if the keys not on it will not work. That way someone breaks a window or breaks into your Jeep they can't just hit the button and open your garage and break in I think all cars should have that safety feature now

I did mine tonight with engine running. ZERO issues, took about a minute to put in 2 of my 7 garage doors.
