So I noticed today while washing my jeep that the outside mirrors have significant up and down play.. is this normal? I know they can't be rock solid since they do have to fold.. but idk if this is normal or if I need to have this addressed.. just wondering if anyone else has noticed up and down play on their mirrors

The side view mirrors on my JLU are rock solid. A bit of effort is required to fold them inward, actually. Again, though, there's no north/south movement.

Both of the mirrors on my '21 do that. It takes some effort to move them tho. They don't flop around.
Unless yours vibrate while driving, I'd say it's normal.

Just back from the garage. Neither of the mirrors on my '21 do that, despite using the heel of my palm to apply extra force in an effort to reproduce the movement in the video. Again, rock solid.

Something is loose or broken. Probably worth chasing it down.

I might expect that kind of play if you frequently fold your mirrors in/out. I know for some who park on the street it's a daily occurrence. Still, if it's under warranty it would be worth seeing if they can be tightened.

They feel like they're spring loaded. I would think this would aid in keeping them from breaking from a small impact.

Yes.. thats exactly what it feels like when I move it.. like it's spring loaded.. thats the feeling it gives.. a little tension when I push up on it..

I was thinking the same.. the only time I fold them is when I take the doors off.. I never noticed it last summer and fall when I took them off.. hopefully I didn't damage it while doing so.. but regardless it shouldn't happen if they are meant to be folded.. probably have it looked anyway

My 2023 does not do that. The mirrors are very stiff in every axis. Maybe you got a batch of COVID mirrors?
Lol.. probably.. they will be fixing this for sure if that's the case..

My 22 does the same thing. They do not vibrate or anything when running down the interstate or around town.
