I programmed 2 different garage doors without issue...you may have to go up to the unit and press a button but these I did not. It was surprisingly easy with the handheld remotes.

I also had trouble with one of my garage doors. (It’s a newer door with fancy security built-in, and I had to get it into learning mode and then back into the Jeep before time expired.)

Watch the videos linked by @Rhinebeck01 - you’ll get it to work with some patience.

By the way, this all has nothing to do with Jeep; HomeLink is standard across brands. My GMC was just as finicky with my newer door opener.

No. When it works, it's great.

It's been almost 2 years but I first tried by pressing the door opener learn button by standing from my jeep and attempted programming - no dice. I read somewhere the homelink needed to be a certain distance away from the door opener. So I pulled my jeep into the driveway and it programmed without any issue.

I programmed mine with no issue, but I pushed the learn button on the garage door opener vs doing it with the remote.

I’m guessing I was lucky...I pressed the learn button on my rolling code opener and then pressed the button of choice in the JL and it was that easy, also did the same thing on a 2020 Jag F-Pace and worked the same ....maybe I was lucky

I do recall it being close to the opener when I did it

Follow Canadian/Gate Operator Programming on page 50 of owner's manual. Some hand-held remote signal time out a lot sooner than homelink to pick-up the signal. You have to do a 'Press and Release Cycle' (every 2 seconds) on hand held remote until the homelink indicator light turn to solid or rapidly flashing.
