Is there an interior fuse box under the dashboard on the JLs? Specifically a 2023 Rubicon. I am trying to install a Wolfbox G900 dashcam and the instructions say to run from the fuse box. I bought the hardware kit so I do not have to use the lighter port. I do not want to tear the dash apart to find it, but if I know where the interior fuse box is located I can work with that...

I know a lot of older vehicles used to have interior fuse panels where the OBD2 port now is behind the access panel near the driver's left knee, but I thought they stopped doing that in the late 80s or early 90s.

I'm sure there's accessible power and ground wires somewhere in the dash that you could tap and add an in-line fuse, but think I'd rather run a new wire through the firewall or maybe tap into the backend of the 12V lighter socket, like in the video below..

Thank you, good advice, I looked some more on Youtube and found this. It seems like an easy way to get power without having to go through the firewall...

The only fuse box is in the engine bay. It's not that big a deal to tap in there and run the wire through a grommet in the fire wall. That's what I did for my dashcam.

Do you have the OEM auxiliary switch panel? That option not only provides individual wires for the buttons, but also an ignition-only wire and a direct-to-battery wire you could tap into. They're all located under the passenger footwell, likely tucked behind the carpet. My dashcam is wired to those.

Have you installed the Wolfbox yet? Thinking of getting one of these myself for both recording and visibility. Sounds like you have to install a second rear view camera specifically for this unit, is that correct?

I haven't installed it yet. Hopefully I will get time this weekend. I think I am going to run the power from the fuse box under the hood like in the video I posted. Seems like a better way then trying to go through the firewall. I haven't really checked out running it from one of the auxiliary switches. I like the the Wolfbox because it attaches to the rearview mirror. I am hoping people cannot tell that it is a camera. All the other camera sit on the dash or hang somewhere that you can tell that they are cameras. I am hoping I can hang something around the mirror and then even with the top off people cannot tell it is a camera. Haven't figured out what to do about the back camera when the hard top is off.

Great timing. I have a Wolfbox 840S in my Renegade and now a second is going in my Sport S. I had all the same concerns and this unit is great.

I'll power it my running a new cigarette power dongle (5A fuse) from the fuse box F45 into the cabin. I want an ignition-only power source. ( I like it when the camera starts automatically and I know when it shuts off. I don't use the motion option as I park away and its too windy too often.)

Then I use the supplied cig power plug and line up the passenger side, across the top, and drop onto the camera. I was told to use the Wolfbox's power cord as the cig plug helps 'filter' the power to the unit. And I've tried hardwiring other units only to see them blow. But not the Rene's Wolfbox.

The only issue is not electronic. It was a bit of work to stop the road vibration showing up on the wolfbox glass. The RVM mount on the Rene windshield is rock solid. I had to stiffen up the spring grip at the ball hinge behind the oem mirror.

Now with the wrangler, I think the longer oem RVM arm may cause some glass vibration and may not be defeatable. I'd LOVE to find a shorter RVM arm and mount it all up higher for less vibration and get it all out of my mid-windshield line-of-sight. I'll check with Summit Racing first. With the hardtop, I'll mount it on the glass so the wiper can clear the view as needed. I like that too.

Last note. I LOVE the rear 1080p camera. Just note the recorder records all of the widescreen view back there. But it may show a lesser view when watching in split-sceen (front/rear) mode. Don't panic. I use the rear-only mode alot when towing. Show all of the hitch. Otherwise that 4x6 trailer I tow DISAPPEARS from the oem RVM or even look behind. Let us know how it goes.

last-last note. I have a third Wolfbox that travels loose so when racing/diagnosing/recording, I can zip-tie the rear camera and its 18' cord to record undercar/engine bay/suspension action.

Ways to improve anyone?

How did you wire it? Just splice them in with two buttons or splice them both in with the ignition wire?

I wired a 12v plug to the aux ignition wire and ground, plugged in the 12v adapter my BlackVue came with, and neatly stuffed it behind the trim plastic on the passenger side.

Normally, I would've just wired that directly into mirror power or spliced the adapter cable itself, but I wanted the option of being able to switch out the camera with a different brand or something else entirely down the road. Since all these cameras come with their own 12v adapters, I can simply plug in whatever I want.

Obviously, I'd need to go deeper and do it differently if I wanted record capability with the Jeep off, but my needs are to only have it on while driving.

Your camera came with a single power? Mine came with two. For different configs (constant/ignition, constant/constant, ignition/ignition) depending on when you want the camera on.

I only have the camera, so it's directly plugged into power.

Cool. Yea I think I may just route to the fuse box and tap into two ignition acc fuses
