So I am looking to eventually tear out and get rid of any and all carpet of my jeep (I have a dog so carpets in any vehicle are just the bane of my existence).

Looking at the interior of the jeep there are 4 areas of carpet remaining after I tear out all the floor carpets.
  • The flap/board/cover thing for the cargo tub compartment.
  • The gap cover flap
  • The back of the rear seats.
  • The tie down loops
Back seats:
I have the dark saddle leather seats which I'm rather partial to at the moment, so I'm not too keen on replacing them, plus having mismatched front & rear would look funny. The best solution I've been able to come up with is to possibly take the seats to a local upholstery place and see if they can somehow tear the carpet part of the seat backs out and sew in something else. Either a heavy duty canvas or vinyl?

Tie Down Loops
Pretty easily fixed with with getting the mopar adjustable tie down loops (unless anyone is familiar with a more affordable option?)

The last two pieces of the puzzle are a bit more difficult to figure out a way to replace and get rid of are the gap cover flap for when the rear seats are down (which is almost always because other than my dog I rarely have human passengers, and rarely ever than one who can sit up front), and the cargo compartment cover/flap. I'm not too keen on living without the cargo flap cover as during the summer I go topless/safari mode with tube doors (not allowed to be doorless where I live...) so having a secure spot that can't be easily broken into to stash valuables is needed.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Edit: because I was asked by someone I was talking to elsewhere who wasn't sure what I was talking about with the cargo flap/cover I took this video. Excuse the mess, I had some horses break into a feed back in the back I haven't had a chance to clean up yet.

May be worth reviewing the armolite installation instructions to get an idea of what they do for the flap and tie downs.

Even Armorlite doesn't replace the load floor, but I bet with some ingenuity you could either recover it, or fabricate a replacement.

I think your reupolstry idea is probably the best looking for the back of the seat, but may be some durabilty concerns with most materials under paw. What about making a velcro backed marine vinyl panel that you just apply to it?

So with the armolite cargo system they have it's just one big flap/piece for the floor. If you wanna have your tie downs accessible they tell you to cut out holes/boxes for them, and I'm guessing if someone wanted to they could cut out slits on either side to have the flap be separate.

As for the re-upholstry, I figure if I get some kind of heavy duty canvas similar to the kind they used for canvas tents, (though vinyl may be worth looking into as well?) it should hold up pretty good. Besides, pup won't be stepping on it too much as there's a Costco size dog bed in the backseat for her that takes up most of the space.

I have the Armorlite system and can confirm it's a great solution for the majority of the carpet. I didn't use their cargo area mat, cause I already had a Weathertech one and it's basically the same, as far as I'm concerned.

What I did for the rear seat back was picked up a set of these on Amazon. It doesn't *eliminate* the carpet, per say, but it keeps the dog hair off of it, which was also what I was after.

Here's my full write-up. I'm several months in and zero complaints. When I installed my neoprene seat covers for the summer, I just removed the two panels on the backs of the seats (but left the one on the gap cover) and it's been just fine.

For a budget option vs re-upholstering, this actually looks like a good option. I'm in 🇨🇦 so prices will be a bit different for me, but definitely worth looking into!

Armorlite is what I did and it's the best mod I've done. It is actually much quieter than carpet and definitely better than none.

My issue with Armorlite is how it handles the lid/flap for the cargo compartment. To me it's an overall inelegant solution that I don't care for. Besides, my endgame goal is to eventually spray in LizardSkin's ceramic shield & sound dampener.

Besides once the conversation of USD -> CAD is done, shipping, tax, & import fees is added up, I may as well go for a spray in solution over a drop in solution.

I hear you on shipping. I was going to order Armorlite last year when the 2Dr was finally released. Shipping added another 50% to the cost.

Aren't Jeeps themselves an inelegant design? I agree on the price though.
