I have an 2018 JLRU that has not gotten the attention that it needs lol. I am looking to add remote start. I have power locks and windows. I am wanting to use the factory remote. Don't need anything fancy just want the heater or A/C to turn on with the remote start. I have search but didnt find a solid thread, if there is one feel free to direct me there. Thanks.

I was looking at that one seemed to easy for the price. I am just confirming the ac and heat come on with remote start?
They will continue on as they were set when you first exited the vehicle. Same for the radio.

Basically it's just like you pushed your starter button - only remotely.

You can also shut down the vehicle remotely.

Don't know about the heater; I've never used it. :)

Any programming involved?

It looks like you program the unit with a computer browser.

I know they do not recommend for a manual trans, but if anyone is interested I think you can ground the clutch switch with a relay (dark green wire with yellow stripe). Could also be triggered by the power locks. Just be sure it's in neutral!!!

Can you explain this a bit more? I've always had to get compustar for my old manual trans vehicles. All the Amazon reviews say no to the MT.

I did exactly what you are asking for on my '19 JLUR. Using all factory parts and came with new key fobs too (so now I have 4 for my JL). I did a thread on it, I'll find the link...

Here's the link. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...it-and-trailer-harness-kit.12314/#post-859946

Read through it all (only 3 pages) and it has sources for the parts as well. (I think part numbers too).It was super easy (I actually installed it on the 2 JLs I had) and actually cost less than ordering it originally. It cost me, at the time, about $400 in parts and dealer programming. MSRP if I had ordered it from the factory was $495 in'19. And as expected, would turn on heater or A/C if the temperatures called for it.

So my 21 JLUR came with factory remote start. After a year the horrible UConnect expired which forced me to look for other options. I wanted a Drone Mobile like I had in one of my previous cars.

Despite having factory remote start I HAD to get more equipment. This is what I purchased that was plug and plug and did not take long to install

1. iDatalink CMCHXA0 ($69 on eBay)
2. iDatalink THRCH12 T Harness ($45 on eBay)
3. iDatalink ADS-USB weblink updater ($43 on eBay)

Installation was easy! Harness is plug and play and instructions were easy to use. Can use with your factory keyFob (3x lock to remote start). Can also add a Drone Mobile like I did which is cheaper and faster. Commands are almost as fast as using keyFob.

Programming was done using my laptop before installation. Then at the end an extended programming which took about a minute. I’d say full install took about an hour and a half- in the cold using a crappy led light.

Just via a cable hook-up to your PC after you unbox it. At that point you program parameters like how long the engine stays running unattended (like if you were delayed in entering the vehicle).

Are there any functional advantages versus the Start-X option that I mentioned in post#2? The aftermarket solution looks (way) easier to install and (way) cheaper.

When I ordered my Jeep, the remote's MSRP was $500 and you had to buy an equally expense proximity-sensing unlock feature. This made the aftermarket's $170 price very attractive.

I think I am going the start x route for a few reasons.

1. Ease of install (no dealer)
2. Price and it will do what I want.
3. I can get it on Amazon so if it doesn’t work it will be an easy send back.

thanks for all the help and end sights. Gonna wait till Black Friday just to make sure no sales.

I've installed remote starts on recent gen manual Volkswagens when they said it couldn't be done. Used a very similar 3x lock with the OEM fob.
I haven't done the JL, but I believe grounding the clutch switch will allow you to do it. On the previous units I've used, there was a 'grounded when locked' output that I used to spoof pressing the clutch. Of course no one on Amazon has tried it, it requires an extra step and if you leave it in gear it could take off on you. I've thought about installing one but I'm happy to be able to do pit stop mode from the factory (leave it running, walk away and lock it with the fob).

Installing the factory remote start is exactly the same as if ordering it from their factory. It's a stand alone install (does not need any other options such as the proximity locks or anything). All the features of any Jeep, factory ordered w/Rem Start. To clarify, remote start is actually built into the vehicle. The part you replace is actually the RF Hub (which is why this has to be dealer programmed to the body computer...and that's a 20 min job for them). This is a much easier and cleaner install then any 3rd party install and you get 2 new key fobs, which include keys cut specifically to your vehicle (they need the VIN to order the kit so they can cut the keys to match and they program your old FOBs as well, so you end up with 4 FOBs). The RF Hub is located in the left rear of the vehicle and takes no more than 3 min to swap out (small box held with two 10mm bolts and one electrical connector). My dealer (who is just average) swapped the box and programmed for $99 and it integrates just the same as my '22 Rubi (with factory rem start). Locks the doors before starting, turns on the A/C or heater depending on the temp, and will shut off in 10 min if not "officially" put into RUN. It's a no brainer.
