So I installed my shocks today. Took my time. Looked up torque specs. I move the rear shocks. Which are way easier to do. I’m torquing the top shock bolt to the 80 ft lbs and that son of a bitch snapped right off. Just put everything back together and installed the other side. I drove it to the dealership I work at. They are going to remove the bolt for me tomorrow. I don’t have all the right tools, and don’t want to mess anything else up. I just don’t get it. I kept testing and the wrench worked at 60 ft lbs but when I turned to 80 after a couple of pulls the thing snapped. Hopefully it’s not too difficult to remove.

Those rear bolts are crazy long. Any corrosion on it?

That really sucks. Bad bolt or torque wrench..

80ftpds shouldn't have even come close to snapping that bolt.
mom guessing torque wrench. Bolt wasn’t corroded at all.

damn had to be a bad batch of bolts. Those bolts should handle 80lbs no problem

If you don't keep the wrench exactly perpendicular to the bolt, you can apply twisting forces that will snap the bolt.

Why is your mom guessing it was the torque wrench?
Because his other mom was busy baking cookies? It's a different world out there these days.

Sorry, texting and talking to someone at the same time. I'm guessing it was the torque wrench. It's going to be a bitch to get out. It broke off about 1/4 inch inside the shock mount. So, welding a bolt to it to back it out is a no go. Hopefully the easy out can do it, and hopefully the threads on the welded nut in the back are still good. I'm assuming they are since it broke the bolt, and didn't strip.
