very well taken care of.
caught my eye, hard to see but can barely feel bubbling on one hinge.
what is the best course of action?
i’m guessing, eventually, i’ll need to get the door repainted. many other things i’d rather spend that money on.
i really thought i was safe by now.

I if you live 30 miles from the coast it will be cover under recall warranty. I had all 4 doors done at no cost

i live further from the coast than that. it looks like there’s a 5 year warranty for this. i’ll see if i can get a dealership to take a look. my fear is that they’ll say it isn’t bad enough yet. you can see it but it’s subtle. easier to feel.
open to any words of wisdom

How big of a deal is it to wire wheel the paint off and use some touch up paint?
It’s not a big deal, but there’s more to it than that. The hinges need to be removed and the undersides painted along with the areas they mount to, in order to prevent further corrosion. Plus, the touch up paint route will never loom100% right.

Now there's a company doing aluminum hinges, if I run into problems that's what I'm going to do. Just install anodized black aluminum hinges and be done with it. Since the doors are aluminum and the hinges are aluminum it'll stop the problem in it's tracks. The problem now is that they use steel hinges with aluminum doors.

Your factory JL hinges are aluminum. The problem is there is no paint between the door and backside of the hinges.

I've had this bubbling door paint issue repaired on three doors. The dealership may or may not fix it correctly. The proper way is to remove the hinges and prep the door and hinges, then repaint both separately. Two different dealerships in my area did not properly repair/paint mine. It's recurring on those doors

Personally, I'm done with letting any dealership attempt to correct any paint issues. I'm already planning to have a reputable body shop fix mine soon. It's going to be expensive, but it's my peace of mind that I'm investing in.

Is this still an issue with the 2024 JLs? If so, does it make sense to just pull the hinges and paint under them before the rust becomes an issue?

I pulled mine a couple of months ago and just vinyl-wrapped the underside where the hinge makes contact. Should be fine, but if not, there's always Raptor liner.

Sorry don’t know. The newer ones do have a shim between the hinge and door. Knowing there’s a future risk, if I had a new one, I’d certainly pull a door off the hinge and see what’s what under there.

Not sure what living near a coast has to do with it. 5 yr unlimited mile warranty. The galvanic corrosion is NOT rust. Has NOTHING to do with water or weather or care or anything. It's going to happen. Get it documented before the 5 yr warranty is up and you'll be covered.
