Two years, some pretty good hits, and no breakage.
How is most getting the projectile? Big rigs? Poorly covered loads? Snow gravel?
Poorly covered dump trucks that leave small debris on the road which later become projectiles.

I had to have my TJ windshields replaced once or twice a year. ?

That's a pretty good run you've had!!!
You need to try your luck in the lotto....
Or maybe you guys need to stop parking under trees full of hammers. :)

Seriously, there's a rock quarry on my road with dump trucks pulling out onto the highway all day every day. I drive 70 MPH interstates in thick traffic. I drive country roads. I drive everything in between. It's sometimes below 0 degrees with the defrost blowing on high. Other times it's 100 degrees with blistering sun. I will never understand how guys manage to break windshields. Not only have I never broken one, I've never seen a Jeep around town or in a parking lot with a broken one.

Very easy in Las Vegas to get those projectiles. It is a rocky and dusty desert, and our landscaping in the city is all rocks. Freeway/highway shoulders interface with rocky landscape too. On top of that, 24-30 mph wind gusts sweep up sand and small rocks on to the paved surface. And we have crazy drivers who change lanes at sharp angles as they weave through.

To damn close. One car length for every 10 mph. I know it’s almost impossible. Wait until they do the cameras like in Germany that measure distances between vehicles and you get your ticket in the mail.

I honestly don't know how it happens either. I'm in Atlanta in the most metropolitan part of the city. No rock quarries or dirt roads. Just paved street and interstate travel. And yet still, I've managed to be unlucky enough to catch a rock on my windshield that caused a small crack.

I've definitely noticed windshields are more likely to get hit in bigger cities. We were in the Chicago area for a while, and the traffic/multilane interstates and truck traffic makes flying rocks happen much more frequently (Jeep or not). Combine that with the fact that the Wrangler windshield angle and shape makes it more likely to be a direct hit, and it's a recipe for cracks.

Thing is, for my situation, it was a truck coming in the other lane who hit a rock that bounced in my windshield. Luckily, it hit straight and it was easy to repair.

Interesting. Because for us in Quebec, it's the other way around. I've never heard of a Wrangler owner who did NOT have to replace at least one windshield.

That being said, you gotta keep in mind we use of mix of salt, gravel and sand on the roads in the winter. So it might happen more often in snowy regions where roads need to be plowed, I don't know.

That being said, luckily, they were able to repair mine for a 100 $ CAN. It leaves a very, very small mark that looks like a smashed bug stain. It did the trick this time around.

So there I am. Driving down a desolate two lane road in rural Colorado, I’ve got prairie all around me, and mountains on the horizon. It’s the beginning of a week long vacation, I’m heading to the San Juans to hit some trails. There isn’t a soul around for 10 miles other than my wife and I.

*SMACK!*

WTF? Did I just chip my windshield?

Yes. Yes I did. Just cruising down the road, throwing rocks at my own damn windshield. ?

I lived there for 4 years and never heard of nor saw a ticket like this from anyone. Shit ton of photo radar but not "distance measuring cameras".

I set the ACC at max distance and don't follow trucks. I'm on my 3rd windshield in my JTR (24 months) and wife is on her 3rd in her JL Sahara in 27 months. My GG equipped JL Willys is only 3 months old, so no judgment yet.

8 years in my JKR with the original glass before I sold it.

Always make sure you have the windshield option with your insurance. It only costs $50 for a replacement and $0 for a repair. We know our Safelite guy by name.

I don't know how insurance works in USA but as soon as you claim in Quebec, even if you're not responsible for the accident, your insurance plan goes up the wazoo the year after. So for a 100 $ CAN a repair, I simply pay the bill and tell the windshield shop to not bother my insurance company for such a small amount.

As for a replacement, it's mandatory to have a windshield insurance in your plan anyway in Quebec.
