iPhone 14, beating new science. How do you all feel that iPhone 14, will help Jeep people?

it is a brand new technology, your cell phone reaching satellites. If you are out there, how do you feel that the new iPhone can help you? It won’t replace a 2 way, but, do you feel the new technology is able to help you?

Personally, I have a T-Mobile iPhone and T-Mobile is already working with starlink to provide service to remote areas. You won’t be able to stream YouTube, but in a emergency situation you can get help. Does it replace trail radios and sat phones? Do you rely on 2 way, or do you need it for emergency? We are on the brink of new tech, and our uconnect4 won’t be able to do it. How can your phone help you?

I have an In-Reach mini. It might duplicate some of the SOS capabilities of that depending on how well they support the process on the back-end. We'll have to see how it's set up. I don't envision retiring my In-Reach anytime soon.

As someone who owns multiple iPhones and Garmin devices, there’s no way in hell I’ll retire my Garmin equipment for life safety purposes. As glitchy as phones are I will happily pay the price for the Garmin. And the Garmin doesn’t require you to hold it and aim it. What if you’re in no condition to do that?

Two way radio is not even a player. That’s for in-group comms and I aim to be in places where there is no group.

From what I've read, it's only an "emergency-use" technology. First, you have to actually dial 911 ... when that fails, satellite connectivity is attempted.

So, for everyday use, it's not a functional feature. I had a Gen3 SPOT when I walked the AT and could send "check-in" messages as well as provide tracking to those who were interested in my travels. I don't think it will supplant any of the current technologies out there.

Some of the other features introduced might be interesting to check out. For instance, the image stabilization in the iPhone 14 Pro is supposed to be greatly improved. That could come in handy while recording trail videos. But, it's not enough for me to drop $1K plus on a new iPhone.
