very glad you are figuring this out.

question. The fad disconnects only half the axle right?
does that mean you end up with one front wheel pulling?
aka three wheel drive low?

I stopped worrying about the 4wd service light as it is only on for short time abf I will be replacing it with a dana ultimate 44 w/o FAD and a gear ratio that should result in not needing 2wd lo. Currently I have a relay inline to FAD controller that is activated by one of the factory installed switches.

An open differential follows the path of least resistance so if it can't spin both shafts equally it will spin only one, in the case of the FAD being disconnected it will be the stub shaft going to the FAD.
