I bought some used rockslide engineering steps for my new JL and wanted to add the step lights. I had a hard time spending ~$90 with shipping on 4 led lights with weather pack plugs so I did a little Amazon research to see if I could make my own.
SPOLIER: My total was $33.05, I built 2 sets, and have a giant weather pack kit for future projects.
Rockslide Lights: $76.99
Parts List:
Bed Lights: $12.06
Large Weather Pack Kit: $20.99 (Its cheaper if you just buy the connectors you need but I wanted to kit for future builds)
Or just buy the following:
Qty: 4 Weather pack female pins
Qty. 4 Weather pack rubber seals
Qty. 2 Weather pack male 2-pin plugs w/seals
Tools Needed:
Soldering Iron/Solder (I don't own a crimper for this so solder works)
Needle Nose Pliers
Wire strippers
Step 1:
The bed light kit actually has enough to make 2 kits. Set aside the extra set and cut out the extra wire from the set you will use. It should look like this.
Step 2:
Strip back the wires, install the rubber seals, solder FEMALE pins onto the wires.
Step 3:
Use the pliers to bend the tabs around the rubber seals.
Step 4:
Test polarity with your steps, insert the pins into the proper hole of the 2-pin connector.
Step 5:
Complete the install per Rockslide's install documents:
Step 6:
Crack another one open you just saved yourself $55.
The set above is for sale HERE if you would like to buy it.
