Weather was great today and I had free time, so finally got the underbody cameras installed. Here are a couple of short vids as a test of the camera placements:

Will do an actual rock crawling test this coming weekend at Rausch Creek off-road park.

The rear view is limited since I have a stock Rubicon. The rear view will be more useful after I get a lift so that I will be able to see my rear diff and tires.

welp, I am blown away and inspired. I will definitely be adding this to my list. So, I have the front camera that comes with my Rubicon X and, of course, the stock back camera AND a wolfbox rear camera. i am thinking I would put them near the middle on each side with each one pointing at a tire. Thoughts on that arrangement?

If you are talking about getting the camera kit that @C.Sco and I got, then sounds like you'll have everything covered.

The next step is to get 12V power to the steering column area. This was one of the easiest parts - just install the Quadratec power tap behind the dashboard 12v outlet, and run a pair of wires out the side (see red/black wires at bottom right of picture below).
I have a question about this step. How are you running wires off the Quadratec power tap? Are you modifying the tap in some way?

Thanks!

No modification needed. The power tap has a screwdown terminal at the end, so you just plug the DVR and monitor power wires into it and screw them down:

Where did you end up mounting the rear view camera? I put mine on the backside of the FAD skid plate on the front axle, which has so far worked out pretty well because it's pretty much the lowest place to put it, and relatively well protected from rocks.

I put it on the front axle tube as low as I felt comfortable that it would still be somewhat protected from rocks. I thought about mounting on the FAD skid like you did, but that would have put it even higher. After I get a lift I may move the camera higher in the center of the axle tube. Wranglers have a shorter wheel base than my Gladiator, so a Wrangler Rubicon with the camera mounted in the same spot I have mine now, might actually be able to see their rear diff and tires without a lift.

It looks like I might need your help this time with troubleshooting, @RubiDukkie

I got my new PHD5N1 camera and connected it up (just unplugged the old camera, plugged in the new one), turned the Jeep on and I just get static. If I unplug it I get the blue "no signal" screen, but plug it back in and I get static again. Any ideas? Did you have to do anything special (with dip switches etc) to make yours work?

Have you tried connecting the camera straight to the monitor to make sure that works?

Either AHD setting will work, but set the monitor input type to 720p 30fps from the Settings menu option using either the Menu button on the monitor or the monitor's remote.

Video Output Type Video Quality DIP 5 DIP 6

AHD 30FPS 5:UP 6:UP

AHD 25FPS 5:UP 6:DOWN

The default DIP switch settings on the video interface is CVBS 5:UP 6:DOWN. If you are using the Default settings, then make sure you don't snip the Blue wire on the new camera's connector, otherwise the video signal will mismatch and give you static:

If you snipped it, then just join them back together.

Interesting, that is helpful, thanks!
I didn't cut the blue wire but I wonder if it's broken maybe. I'll try running the camera straight into the monitor and see what happens, I guess it might be possible I just got a bad camera too.

I think the settings on the monitor are ok since I can see the other 3 cameras fine still, but I'll double check.

Thanks for the tips! I'll keep you posted

A couple of short clips showing the underbody & bulbar trail cam view of Crawl Daddy at Rausch Creek Off-road Park. The cams viewing the front tires are foggy due to the muddy waters. The rear diff and tires are not visible due to the being a stock Gladiator Rubicon on 33s. I expect that with 35s and a 2.5" lift, they will be visible.
