Hello,

I installed on my jeep drag link, tie rod and track Bar from Metalcloak.
I am a newbie on mechanics. So i need to know, after how many miles offroad i need to grease the balljoints on the tie rod and drag link. Also how many pumps? 2-3 will be ok? Is there any possibility to recognize from the Rubber boot if the balljoint Contains much grease inside and if its time to pump New inside ?

I saw that after installing the components in one balljoint after greasing it, there was a small hole in the Rubber from which came out the grease. Is this normal when too much grease is pumped in?

I know a lot of questions but it would be great if someone finds the time to explain it to me correct.

With the relief slit "valve" you should be able to pump until you see clean grease exit the valve. Be good to do after water/mud immersion AND at a standard maintenance interval 3-5k miles.

Never heard of anyone over greasing joints so I wouldn’t worry about that. How often is probably a little subjective or depends on your type of use.

I would grease everything every oil change/tire rotation, and before/after big wheeling trips.

You’ll know you used enough when the old stuff starts to squirt out.

I use Mystik JT-6 with 3% moly and give it a couple of pumps every 5K miles when I do an oil change.

The quality of the grease is also very important. I recommend, that you go down to your Caterpillar Heavy equipment Dealer, and purchase your gun grease from them. This is what they use on their rental equipment, so that just tells one, that their grease has to be of the highest quality.

Pump grease until the grease coming out looks cleaner. Not sure how that'll happen when there's no grease fitting like on our Jeeps.

Here's a type of grease I've used quite a lot in the trucking industry.

Not sure if it's the best, but I'm certain it's pretty good stuff from what I've seen in the parts I've disassembled during repairs..

Tell me you’re not one of those CAT Kool-Aid drinkers?
