Does the TPMS system automatically detect the new tire location if you rotate your tires?

What is the mechanism it uses to determine this?

(P.S. Does the TPMS system tell you the pressure of the spare tire as well?)

So it only reads the 4 active tires - and will read the spare only when it is added to replace an active wheel.

How does the JL/JLU know which tire/rim/wheel is where .....

Well, there are 3 sensors on the chassis that monitor the 4 TPMS Sensors found on the 4 tire (rim) positions.

Info from the 3 chassis sensors is transmitted to the Wireless Control Module. There is no need for a 4th chassis sensor as the computer uses the process of elimination to determine the fourth tire location.

Yes, your JLU/JL knows exactly which rim is where, within seconds of a tire rotation for example.

There is a TPMS sensor in the factory mounted spare but it is not read by a chassis sensor/ considered by the computer until it is placed in one of the 4 tire positions.

TPMS sensing is different for various brands. My Chevy Silverado learns which tire is which as soon as I tell it that the tires have been rotated. My 2015 Mustang has to have a special transmitter brought near each of the rotated tires. I ended up buying the transmitter...because the shop charges where so high just to reconfigure the rotated tires.

Yeah the stealerships managed to make a killing selling these sensors with million % markups and then raping you again at every rotation.

Thankfully Chrysler implemented a self-registering system right from the start I think. That is the only sensible way to go.

From what I've been able to gather, there are pickup sensors in 3 of the wheel wells and they determine which sensor is closest to them by the amplitude of the signal.. From there the system can place the location of each sensor.

I think its cool that the JL does sense its TPMS location. I left the tire shop yesterday and the system automatically fixed its position and all is well. No more learn tool....:handsinair:
