I would use a high-tech plug and use it for a spare.

Defininitely spare material. I drove around with a spare for a long time that had a gash in the same area. Stuck about 5 plugs in it and mounted it to the back of my TJ. Just spray it with some soapy water after plugging to make sure it's plugged up well. Check it again in a few weeks.

Might have to do that one yourself. Depends on who you know at shop!
X2 and if you can make it your spare.

IF you pull the nail out does it lose air immediately?

Maybe use as a spare and drive carefully if ever used.

Sucks when this happens! And it usually happens to me on new or low mile tires!

I do agree that the hype about sidewalls is overplayed by the tire companies....but....on the other hand........ we're not talking $3k here, just $300. I'd patch it and throw it on the back for now, but get you a new one as soon as you can (afford to......?)

35" KO2 7K miles. Immediately started spewing air when I pulled it out. Tapped it back in until I can bring it in to tire shop.

Any chance I can find a shop to patch or too far into sidewall? Or would this be something I am likely going to have to take on myself?

Was able to finally get that fifth tire rotated in though :CWL:

Plug it and put it on it'll be finevworse case is bad plug might leak probaly last as long as the others can't imagine it harmed the integrity of the tire

Any sidewall tire puncture is a replacement.

Every time you hit a bump or dip, you have the potential of some big flexes in the sidewall, bad conditions for a patch to hold well.

if you're really lucky, it could hold.

if you're lucky, it could eventually just start to leak again.

if you're unlucky, it could blow or go flat at a bad time.

if you're REALLY unlucky, it could blow at a really bad time and some bad schist could happen.

IMO, not worth risking it for a few bucks, and I'm a cheap bastage. Few bucks now may save a crudload of headache later.

Kind of like eating expired mayonnaise, you'll most likely be fine, but if you get unlucky you could get really unlucky.

That is NOTHING LOL

Check this out:

Somewhere, somehow in my wheeling I got a Round quarter sized piece of rubber ripped out ??? Next to was a vertical slice to the right of it, It could have been vandalism???

But my GY 37 MTRs held up and I wheeled for another year and it finally gave up the ghost down in Mexico wheeling along the Sea of Cortez.

I bought a tube of Shoe GLue and forced it into the openings, worked. I finally switched over to BFG KM2s and sold my MTRs.

Have the tire removed and patch it from the inside.
I wouldn't try a "tire patch kit" from the outside.
Use it as a spare.
If done right you should be good to go.

I'm not saying that you should do this, but do this.

Plug it and done - that tire isn’t going to fail catastrophically - just not seeing it - giant tire, tiny damage. Such a waste to not wear that thing out - lighting money on fire for nothing.
