Finished installing my Hotheads sky one touch liner and sun shade. Graphite for the liner and black for the sunshade. They both fit really well with the one touch top. I will get some pics up.
How do you like the black/gray hotheads sunshade? Not sure which color you have. Looking to purchase but also want to be able to look up and see the trees, moon at night, etc. Is this possible? Not sure if white is more transparent.

I have the black sun shade (and the grey liner). I don't know if the white would be more transparent, I have never been in a Jeep with a white one. Had a olive green sunshade on my previous JL, the visiability with that one is relative to the black one I have now - my opinion.
I got the black thinking it would match well with the black SOT top - and it did, threw on the grey headliner to try to get some color variation, I like the combo.

I cannot understand the picture. Is this a sky touch roof? It looks damn good. Does it roll back with the roof? WTH - I have not seen this before… going to their website!!
Yes, and install is very easy. I was very concerned with getting the Velcro strips just right on each crossmember and making everything very even. Then once I started putting in the actual fabric I realized that it really doesn't make any difference. You are just sticking a big blanket to the roof with Velcro. Helps some with noise and it has helped a lot with the cabin temps.

I've had one of these for about 4 years and love it. BUT......slowly all the adhesive on the velcro is starting to fail.

It started with the rear header piece and the dual-lock velcro seperated from the VHB (the part that i cleaned and stuck to the rear header stayed stuck). I was able to heat that up a bit and get most of it to stick back together, but not at some of the edges.

Now slowly all the normal velcro on the rails is starting to fail on the outter edges and started to sag down. I haven't been able to get these to re-stick.

I imagine it would be a PITA to replace all this and try and get the glue off the rails.

Has anyone here done this and have any tips?

@Hothead Headliners, any suggestions on how to mitigate this issue? I'm pretty sure Santa will be bringing me one in a few days.

You messed up the formatting a bit (scroll up to see), but thanks for the reply. It makes me a bit less nervous about that.

I went through this. Hotheads was stand up, sent out a new set of velcro. I asked their advise for removing the residue, the reply was to reapply it over the residue which I did. Don't do that, the velco fell off pretty quick.

Getting the adhesive residue off is going to test your patience. Nothing I tried really cut it. Both forms of Goof-off, Liquid Wrench penetrating oil, WD-40, brake clean, carb cleaner were all tried. The best were the citrus Goof-off gel and penetrating oil. I would saturate a microfiber cloth with Goof-off and saturate the rib then let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Then I used a poorly molded plastic tool with heavy flash on the mold parting line as a scraper to scrape off as much residue as possible. Rinse and repeat several times until you are down to a film. Then use penetrating oil with a microfiber rag and rub off the last of it. Clean with isopropyl when you are done. I did manage to clean all of the ribs without getting any on the top over the course of several days.

Since you have had it so long, you probably have the same setup I did with velcro strips that attach to the face of the ribs. The new velcro is twice as wide and wraps around the ribs. It seems to hold much better.

Just providing a quick update. I've had mine on since the very earliest days. (One of Hot Heads first customers on this). I absolutely LOVE it! No issues with it coming off / down. Velcro has held fine. It was an easy install. Made a huge difference for me on cabin temperature and especially noise. It also cleaned up the look of the cabin. It basically make the Jeep look the way it should have come from the factory. . . . I've done a lot of mods to my rig, but this is probably the best.

Thanks for getting me squared away!

Turns out I had a VERY early version with thinner velro strips on the cross bars that gave up a bit.

They sent me an updated set and it looks like it will hold up very well.

Thanks!

I recommend cleaning the rail surface with alcohol and then applying adhesion promoter. You can buy small wipes or buy a bottle from Amazon.

According to this SOT-based installation video they include adhesion promoter for where it's needed (when attaching to plastic).
