I have a 2023 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited altitude and on its first road trip from Florida to Georgia an hour to 2 hours in on the trip on the highway the AC still blue cold air but a big gust of hot air which smelled like hot tires and engine blew into the cabin for about 30 seconds. It continued doing this the entire trip of 10 days of driving and it happened every 45 minutes to an hour on our long distance driving. I read several forms on here regarding a flash update. And a lot of people with this problem had a little bit older Jeep and they were able to get the update in it corrected it. I just took it to my dealership and they couldn't locate the problem nor did they say I needed a flash update. They said I already had it. And they can't do anything to fix it if it's not blowing the hot air at the time that they have it. So I'm thinking it's perhaps attached to the condenser of the air conditioner maybe? It's really annoying and I really don't understand why my Jeep is doing that. I have less than 4,000 miles on it. Has anyone else had this issue and if so any input would be much appreciated.

Behind the glove box is the mixer for the A/C system. In Jeeps infinite wisdom, they designed the Wranglers to dump engine area air into the cabin, ever 15 minutes or so. Welcome to the club "It's a Jeep Thang".

BTW, I've had mine reflashed. I've tried every way to disconnect the plug to the fresh air damper. Nothing has worked. It's a Jeep Thang.

Supposedly it is to ensure fresh, oxygenated air gets circulated into the cabin occasionally. I believe it only does it on the recirculate setting (can’t remember for sure), but apparently Jeep feels that removable tops and doors are super airtight…

I have a similar issue where once in a while the vents blow hot air for a few seconds. I always have recirc on and I believe its just auto programming for fresh air. While researching Wrangler and Bronco, the Bronco (and Fords in general) do the same thing. I read it was a safety precaution for possible containment air coming in from engine/exhaust and recirculate being on, never 'leaves' the vehicle.

Possibly this is a trim-dependent function? IOW, perhaps the matter of periodic hot air flow affects just those Wranglers where use of the 7" or 8.4" touchscreen is compulsory for at least a portion of HVAC functioning.

I've the analog HVAC control knobs in my JLU Sport, and with the A/C running, only cold air exits the vents for as long as the fan is turned on. There isn't any "Auto" feature as it concerns air flow temps.

It's standard on all Wranglers. You really only notice it in hot climates, when your nice comfortable interior is blasted by hot engine bay air, for 15-30 seconds. It doesn't bother me too much when I am driving. But, it really annoys the wife, because she is rarely allowed to drive it.

The hot air definitely comes from under the dashboard mainly by the glove box area on the passenger side. The AC blows cold the entire time. Just a 30 second gush of hot engine and tire air. And only when driving on the highway longer than a hour. It happened religiously on the hour every hour on our road trip. Super annoying.

when i push the recirc button it turns on for about 10 minutes and then turns itself off.
Is there any way to make it stay on?

I would say that is a defect. It should stay on once it's pressed.

I've never had a Ford, trucks and cars, or any other vehicle do this. In coming outside air will normally be drawn from in front of the windshield. There may be another problem with blend door, ducting, or seal. There may be a de-ice protocol in the AC system. Find the condensate tube that drains from the cold coil. That could be routed some goofy way or plugged.

Completed a 4800 mile round trip from TN to CA and back in early July when just about every daily temp was around, or above 100.
I never noticed this phenomenon once. Cabin stayed comfortably cool the whole time.
