Same here, the power wire is very thick gauge wire so I didn't want to risk a fire. I ran it to the front and connected it directly to the battery with the fused link per the instructions. I probably had almost 4 hours total in my install, but all my trailer lights work perfectly and all my wires are out of sight and it looks factory.

Thanks for posting. I've been working on mine this afternoon, timely post!

Couldn't you buy this:

https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Hopkins/47345.html

It's a $9 adaptor for 7 pole to 4 pole.

Just wanted to share that I ordered this part # and it is not what I expected. It's got a harness on one end that looks like it would plug into pre-existing wiring inside the Jeep, and the other end is made for a connection to a 7-pin harness for RV towing. It does not allow for plug and play hookup to use a 4-pin adapter. In fact, I'm seriously doubting it'll do anything at all for Jeeps with no factory tow wiring.

Oh well, at least it was just $35 wasted.

Retired but working with benefits.
I installed the T-One wiring for a 4-pin harness yesterday. Got it from etrailer.com. Made by Tekonsha. Installation was a P I T A........
I missed the T-One when I ordered and got the universal kit for the JL. Both are linked here. I recommend the T-One. My install went pretty well thanks to the side panel removal video I have linked above, post # 249. I never would have pull or pried on the side panel without knowing where the snaps were on the inside. It comes off fine, just tight. As for the power all I will ever tow is a bike trailer with LED tail lights so I tapped into the 12V power plug in the back. DON'T DO THIS! (Legal disclaimer over with. Had to say that. More info below.) I also tapped into the tail light harness, not the tail light itself. This way the tail lights can still be easily removed for bulb changes in the future.

Left side blinker connection is yellow to yellow but use a circuit tester to verify the wires. The harness wires are not yellow, brown, green!!! The tail light is the third grey white looking into the connector (again, verify with a circuit tester!). I ran the green right blinker wire down from the left tail light over the rear cross member and up to the right tail light. Using a tester again locate and tap into the blinking light wire. Securing the wire to the crossmember was a breeze using stick on zip tie holders. I double sided taped the controller inside the tail light housing area but made sure the fuse was accessible via the pop-off tail light removal panel.

Useful 12v outlet info from the OM, "There are two 12 Volt (13 Amp) auxiliary power outlets." And here's a link to trailer light amp draw.

The hitch itself is chimp simple. I read in a few places where the muffler would be in the way. It is not. So if you can sleep nights tapping into the 12v power connector in the back it's a two hour job with the universal kit, one hour with the T-One.

Thanks again etrailer! I had originally purchased the Mopar trailer wiring kit but returned it. Per the instructions I would have to repin the ECU connector. I can do that but I also know what ECUs costs. I returned that kit unopened.

Apologies for writing a novel, but hopefully this will be useful info. :jk:

The Draw-Tite hitch for JK fits the JL like a glove. I had no bracketry to move around or anything. It just bolted right on. I like this one because the tube is long enough to clear the bumper so that your accessories clear the spare tire.

Did you get an aluminum trailer? I have a honda pioneer that's crazy heavy and I am thinking it's gonna be a workout for this jeep on a steel 6x12 trailer. I travel about 300 mi one way, so l am thinking about aluminum. Damn tariff talk has added a few hundred to prices though!

For the t1 kit: do you need to take all the panels in the back off? Or just access to taillights? I’m thinking of getting the T1 and NOT  tapping into the 12volt outlet in back. My boat trailer has all LED lights so power draw is minimal (no trailer brakes.)

I have one of those. I have one to convert to 6-pin for heavy equipment trailers too. :) But the reason people were told to order the harness under the part number we were given is because we thought it was a harness that would plug right into the tail lights and run trailer lights on a Jeep that was ordered without the tow package. Turns out that it's not. It's actually a harness meant for a Jeep WITH the factory tow package. Hence, the reason I needed to buy the $70 T-One kit from another vendor.

You don't have to remove the trim. But, if you want to have a clean installation where you can't see any wiring and the wiring is protected, then yes you'll need to take the driver side rear apart as I showed in that video on the previous page of this thread. However, the T-One kit still requires less of the Jeep to be taken apart than the factory Mopar kit does.

Has anyone who does not have the factory tow package installed an electric trailer brake controller yet? I've installed the MOPAR 7-way harness, which provides the blue wire for the feed for the trailer brakes, and I'm aware that the red and black wires for the brake controller will go to the hot & ground on the battery, however, I'm unable to find a trigger/feed wire for the actual brake controller itself. On my JK, it was a brown/white wire (4 wires running to brake pedal switch). On my JL, there are only 3 wires running to the brake pedal switch, and none of them have 12 volts going to them, regardless of whether the brake pedal is pressed or not.

Anyone have any ideas?

That's a good question. Since the JL towing capacity is 3,500 lbs. max there is rarely a need for trailer brake controllers to be used on these Jeeps, so you'll probably have a hard time finding someone who's successfully done an install. I would suggest calling the manufacturer of your brake controller to see if they can help.

None of the brake controller companies have any information. Any offroad camping trailer on the market (at least decent one) is going to have electric trailer brakes, so I don't think the demand for a brake controller in a JL is necessarily as minuscule as you might think. And most of them are far from 3500 lbs.

Looking for an aftermarket or mopar hitch to install on my JLUR for a bike rack.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can I find it through my dealer? or go aftermarket?

easy to install?
Following this thread, reading many options and decided to buy the Mopar receiver.
Okay I got the 68251844AB hitch in today with no hardware. I’m thinking I can reuse the two bolts that are already there. I think that the hitch can be installed and then put the plate or bracket right over it. I will put it on tomorrow if I can get the other 2 bolts.

I also got the factory 7/4 pin harness, wow it goes from the battery all the way to the hitch. It has a module and a bunch of wire it looks to be worth the 200 dollars I paid for it. I would only install this if you have experience doing this type of thing. I’m a mechanic at a dealership with 24 years of wrenching experience.
Following this post I found your and others recommendations for the 68251844AB hitch. I went to the dealer to buy it too. I need no wiring since I just need the hitch for my bike rack. So it was great to have the Mopar for 80 bucks. No hardware though, Then I went to Home Depot but they they don't have the fine thread. So I installed the hitch reusing the 2 bolts already there. Where did you bought the other two needed?
