I don't know if you have it, but on mine with the factory tow package it is on the left side of the driver side. Mine was tied to another bunch of wires running vertically down the left kick panel where your parking break would be if it was in the floor.
Can you snap a picture of this if possible?

I believe it is there and just tucked away. I just ordered the harness and will be giving it a shot.
You would think it would be there.

See, that's my problem. I've been under there three times looking for the socket, but can't find it. I know where to look and what to look for from reading the other thread about it. Just can't find it. That's why I'm wondering if it's there, at all, if you don't have it factory installed. Was hoping someone else that doesnt have the factory installed version (like me) could find it on theirs to confirm. I'm trying to confirm for anyone else that might need to know, just can't seem to locate it.

They factory harness I installed has a single blue wire that is instructed to run back to the glove box area. It doesn't state what the wire is used for.

Does this blue wire have a white stripe on it?

But the factory installed socket is on the drivers side and uses 4 wires, not one. 4 wires is what is required for a brake controller.

See here.

Ok, so after getting caught up on this thread, I think I understand a bit more. @Craigb - you are our resident expert on the hitch install because you are one of only a couple that has actually went through the full install. So, I think I read where you said that the OEM brake controller plug that is located under the drivers dash on factory installed hitches is NOT part of the self-install package (but you don't care bc you dont need it), but have you seen any part number anywhere that we could add it if we needed it? I know I need it. How about you, @FatBoy01 , you seen anything?

Sorry I don't recall seeing anything in the instructions about adding a brake controller. Does mopar offer a controller for the JL?

The choice of the controller is up to the user, you don't need it in light hauling.

Back to the original thread... the e-trailer people did seem to come up with an after-market solution for the wiring harness though in response to my question with the picture showing the tail light in the JL (factory) and how it was different from the JK (Curt) plug *see here. They proposed this part # 118782 (harness) if someone wants to try... it still involves running a wire up to the battery (although I have an auxiliary power jack right there in the back). Here's my question and their answer : https://www.etrailer.com/question-286461.html?fb=yes.

Yes, they don't have an image up yet of the product. I wasn't too excited about the cost nor the wire run to the battery, but I had mentioned to them that I had the LED tail light so that might mean a power fluctuation to the ECM if it sensed a voltage change. Bottom line, wish I had the factory towing harness installed.

Thanks for finding the wire harness @kculp . I don't have LED and I just ordered the harness. I will post on here Pictures and how the install goes when I get it. Thinking I will try to run the wire trough the frame to the battery.

Did some research. Yes, the blue wire is for the brake controller (purchased separately, of course). The brake controller will also have (and need connected) a positive and negative hooked to the battery and a red one that runs to the brake switch on the back of the brake pedal.

I've said this before on one of these hitch threads that I'm disappointed that there is no brake controller socket preinstalled for connecting it easy. However, if you have the hitch factory installed, you DO have one. We get penalized for not getting it on the front end, it seems.

I would guess you are right, but in my experience this is pretty typical.
