Please contribute to the thread. I would love to see where you tap into the lighting circuits within 2 inches of the hitch. It could help anyone looking to add a aftermarket 4 way.
I agree with Craigb

I have looked at the wires for the LED lighting package, and to put it mildly they are probably the thinnest wires i have ever seen, any attempt to jump at the tail lights and run more "load" to additional lighting, i believe would result in serious issues. The harness diverts the power load off of the tail light harness and dedicates it to the new harness which is capable of handling the load (trailer lighting - led or regular). Do yourself a favour and use the OEM harness, your warranty will appreciate it.

Looking for an aftermarket or mopar hitch to install on my JLUR for a bike rack.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can I find it through my dealer? or go aftermarket?

easy to install?

I just installed a Mopar Hitch and was satisfied with the product and ease of installation. The hitch itself is made well, uses (4) bolts. The trick, is to take off the (2) 10mm, and (2) 7mm bolts that support the 'plate' in the bumper (middle). This allows the hitch to be pushed into place, line up the large bolt holes, and fasten everything back up!

Curt trailer wiring harness plug vs factory plug on the Sahara JL. All I wanted was 4 pin, there is absolutely nothing on the aftermarket currently that fits. I am against splicing into a new vehicle electrical system. I did put on the Class III Curt hitch, works fine. We had a welding burr to grind off, otherwise did not remove bumper and installed in-place.
The factory offers a complete wiring harness, but it is pricey and it takes effort and knowledge to install. It does come with the 7 .prong along with the 4 prong. It fits the JL perfectly.

The dealer has now done two wiring harness installs and they absolutely hate it! Just picked mine up today after they had it over night to get it done. I put the hitch on, but the wiring directions just scared the crap out of me so I had them do it. They didn't like it either. All the wiring is inside the vehicle now and not along the bottom on the outside like the JK. If I were to do it again, I'd get factory install. Unless you can find really cheap mopar parts and don't mind trying to do it yourself, probably no real savings having the wiring done by dealer.

It was challenging, but now that I've done it, I could do the install in half the time.

What did the dealer charge for the install? I may need to tow something in a couple weeks and the wiring harness kinda freaks me out on a new vehicle.

They charged me 3.2 hours just for the wiring. The whole hitch and wiring install is listed for 3.7 hours. Glad there was a limit, it took them about 6. $313 was the total for the labor.

Hmm, plus the cost of the parts, so that gets pricy fast. I think I may just buy the parts and do it myself. Sound like there is no splicing, just reconfiguring the pins on a connector, and the work to run the wiring from front to back.

I know of at least one dude on the forum that has done it himself. The hitch install was not that bad, I did that no sweat. It was the wiring instructions that just scared the crap out of me so I decided to pass. I'm sure if I just took my time and was careful I could have "got 'er done". Just chickened out on my new rig.

Let me know if you are going to install yourself. I learned a few tips doing it and it helps speed things up if you have a helper on the power wiring.

Freaks me out too, but I’m ok doing it as long as I’m not splicing wires.
