Help! Mount a Highlight jack on Tailgate a good idea? Weight concerns.

Anyone mount a High Lift on a JL with the tailgate reinforcement installed on it with a 37" spare tire? The Rampage bracket goes on the hinge, right side of the tailgate, I'm aware I will need to modify the Rampage bracket to do this. I am concerned about the weight. The jack stands straight up next to the pare tire. Sorry don't know how to add a picture.

The weight won't be an issue.

I wouldn't get the hi-lift jack. Unless you have built your Jeep around using it, skip that jack altogether. You need D-rings or cut outs in your bumpers to use it. If you have the little strap with the hooks, the steel bumper doesn't handle the weight of the Jeep well.

I'd look into bottle jacks or something other than the hi-lift. You'll never use it.

Run yourself through a scenario where you'll need to jack and think through exactly how to use it on your Jeep the way it's built currently. No need in carrying the extra weight of something you can't use.

I carry a wheel strap for the HiLift so I can jack mine (or anyone else’s) up by the wheel.

On mine I also have a RockHard on the front.

I always try to carry mine inside, to keep them clean, reduce temptation for kleptos, and keep the weight centrally located.

Jacking up by the wheel doesn't help for the main purpose of having the jack... a flat tire.

You need to get under the axle tube, bumper, or rock rail. The bumper and rock rail should have cut-outs or be recessed to accept the jack.

I don’t carry a HiLift for changing tires, that’s mainly a recovery tool.

Everyone is free to make their own choices about tools and equipment, it’s none of my concern whether anyone else carries a particular item or not.

I can jack up a Vette if I need to with the HiLift, damage free. And change the tire too.

Some guys hate the hi lift, I wouldn't wheel without one. Mainly used for recovery, but also beneficial for jacking the jeep high enough to get a tire up out of a hole it's wedged in, moving the jeep laterally when need be and it's pinned between big rocks, or even using the handle to sleeve a bent track bar or drag link. The hi lift has bailed me out of every one of those situations where a bottle jack is useless. Ours is mounted on the front bumper above the winch.
