Can the temp even get to 400 before the vehicle shuts off? I've seen a couple photos of the temp gauge on JL's in the red at 250, so I doubt it can reach 419 and the vehicle still function.

Someone at jeep decided to be clever and bury some Easter eggs into the gauges when things are turned off...

419 is the area code for Toledo, Ohio

Normally, I find the Easter eggs amusing, but overriding critical engine information is stupid.
If that's really some kind of Easter Egg, it's funny but not cool.

If your coolant didn’t end up on the ground, it very likely was not really over 400°. Even considering heat soak, I can’t imagine that it would even hit 300° with normal operation.

So a few weeks ago after sitting in L.A. traffic for 4 hours and then 2 hours on a trail (at night in cold temps and in 4hi) I noticed this on my gauges when we hit our campsite and I shut the engine off. During the whole time on the trail my temps were reading normal and my cooling fan kept coming on when needed. I've seen this once before after the first time I took it off road after only having the Jeep for about 2 weeks. Scared the crap out of me. I'm wondering if it's "normal" or if I should even bother contacting the dealership to check it out. I'm just worried since we have a big trip coming up to Moab the end of March and I'm scared to death I'm going to blow the engine out on a trail! :crying: Any help or insight into this would be great!

No way, can your engine and trans get that high. If you happen to get that high in temps your engine and trans would start to have total melt down. I know, I had a 2006 Ford 6.0 Diesel. Anything above 275 and this motor was in total melt down. It was blowing anti-freeze everywhere. I had to get rid of that piece of junk for Ram cummins. Which I sold for my diesel wrangler.

Electrical problem for sure, there is no possible way your coolant went over 400F, your radiator, coolant line would explode long before even reaching 300 F. You engine will have catastrophic failure like rod knocking holes on the blocks.. Same as for the 401 F transmission, it will have a melt down and no possible way you are driving it normally the second day...

And both of your vehicle showing exact same number is definitely something electrical. Noticed both of your outside temp also not available.

The outside temp isn't showing because I had just shut the engine off.

Could that be the max reading of the gauge? Sort of like how analogue gauges go to max and then back down when you start the car. Y’all did say it was show that before start up. That would explain the 401 temp too.

Are you fricking kidding me?!?! If that's true that's just stupid. Nothing like making a person stress out because they want to do something "cute".
I'm sure Tesla has a few 420 Easter eggs.
