Hey everyone!!!
Just picked up my first jeep it’s a 2018 wrangler rubicon!! And man my kids absolutely love it!!!! We took the top off today and the front doors and just took the long way every where and they thought they were something else (which I must admit I think they are 😎)

a few things about the jeep
#1 it has the galvanic corrosion in some places….. so I guess my best bet is to go to a body shop with that. I don’t do body work lol

#2 it has a 2.5-3 inch lift. The people I got it from know how much of a lift or that it had a lift lol. But it measures out in the front from the axle tube to the spring tower to be 14.5

also has some method wheels on it and some 35s I do have a issue with the 35s there is wayyyyy to much fender well open with 35s in my opinion. So I’m trying to make a decision to sell the tires (less that 500 miles on them) and buy 37s or 38s but idk which ones will fit.

looking at recon grapplers that are 37x12.5x17 or 38x11.5x17 I’m not a huge off roader and very seriously doubt I’m ever going to really flex it hard ever but at the same time don’t want a ton of rubbing…

thanks everyone have a good day!!

It's more than what tires will fit under the fender and don't rub, you also need to think about gearing. I think 37x12.5x17 with stock Rubi gearing would be a sad day.

What is the stock rubicon gear ratio?

and what would be a good one to go to? 5.38? Or whatever it is in that neck of the woods lol

Stock Rubi is 4.10, I think that I wouldn't go anything less than 5.13 for the manual, maybe 4.88 for the automatic. I have a manual and 4.56 is just right for my 315x70r17's

They are usually 4:10 since you are not planning to off road I would leave like you have it. It looks really good. Going to 37/38 you are going to have higher maintenance cost, should upgrade steering and gears.
like I said if it were mine and I liked how it drives and handles, leave it.

4.10s and 37s is perfectly fine with the auto. That 4.7-1 1st gear is already like a JK auto running 5.38s. And even if you wheel it the 4-1 low range in the rubicon tcase gives you plenty of crawl control. If regearing was free 4.56s are definitely the sweet spot with 37s and the auto, but the difference isn't big enough to spend the $2-3k on gears in my experience.

Just a curiosity question when re-gearing is done on a jeep is all that is changed the pinion and ring gear?

Yes, front and rear obviously. The setup is detailed and fairly critical which is why they run $3k locally when it's about $1,000-1200 in parts.

Depending on where the corrosion is, the fix is different. It’s not galvanic corrosion, but just plain old aluminum oxidation. If around the hinges, you can seal and new hinges. On the hood edge or door seams, you need to replace, not fix. If you replace, put a lot of cavity wax in the door and hood seams

The reason I was asking is I’ve built quite a few rear

its on the bottom of the door, on the hood next to the finder, on the hinges, and around the hinges 😬😬

Those edge spots are on the TSB that says the door seams are compromised. If you spend money fixing the surface corrosion, it will come back pretty quickly. There is a great Facebook page on the problem. Just search for Jeep corrosion and you’ll find a ton of resources. I replaced all my hinges and painted the bare aluminum before any corrosion started, I also sprayed cavity wax into the doors , hood and tailgate. I’d hate to see you spend money, only to have it come back in a year. It’s a big pretty the JLs
