Hello! I've been having an issue with my local dealer in regards to my heated steering wheel and I need some advice/ opinions on it. Some context: I have a '21 JLUR with the weather package that comes with a heated steering wheel. Since I've had the Jeep I always noticed that the steering wheel got real hot for 20 minutes and then essentially shut off. There would occasionally be parts of the wheel that were warmer than others but my laptop could produce more heat than what it drops down to. After a long back and forth with the dealer the ended up replacing the entire steering wheel for free after they continually didn't address the issue. With the new steering wheel given to me, it barely produces the same heat as before (again my laptop could do way better) and it isn't even noticable after the same interval of time.

After getting into contact with the manager of the service department, he stated that I should give the newly replaced part some time to see if it eventually functions properly and that the heated steering wheel on all wranglers are designed to drop to a lower temperature after short while.

So here's my inquiry:

1) Are the JL heated steering wheels designed to drop in temperature after a short amount of time?
2) Are the newer steering colums even weaker than the older iterations?

I've attached a specific manual on the part that the manager sent to me. I skimmed it but I didn't read anything specifically stating the drop in temperature after an amount of time or temperature point.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and respond.

TL;DR: Steering wheel not working properly. I want to know the way it should properly function so I know I'm not crazy.

I have ā€˜23 and have always had the feeling that the wheel never gets hot enough and that the heat is unevenly diatributed. Never thought to bring it up with the dealer though… maybe I should ask!

I don't know the answer to your question, however I can say mine does the exact same thing.

You wouldn’t like me if you knew
My wife’s old 2018 JLU was hot as hell all over!
My 22 JLR is nowhere near as hot and spotty

They drop in temp as a safety mechanism/ shut off

Uneven heat is something that’s either a design defect or your particular wheel. I don’t have it so I couldn’t tell you

My '23 heated wheel is 100% weaksauce compared to an older JL I drove. The old one was literally scalding hot after a few minutes and the new one barely ever gets lukewarm. The thick ceramic coffee mug with a silicone sleeve I'm holding right now is an order of magnitude warmer. As far as I can tell, my new heated wheel seems fairly evenly heated everywhere, just hardly worth using (I've turned it on in 80F weather and sub-0F weather, and it's barely noticeable).

Seems like a fairly common complaint just the past couple of years, and prior to that it being too hot. You'd think somebody, somewhere at Jeep would've at least tried it out at some point and found a happy medium (or gave it 3 temp settings like the heated seats have).
