A few months ago, the my heated steering wheel quit working. When you pushed the button, the light would illuminate for a second or 2 then go back out. A search of threads here suggested that the steering wheel needed to be replaced - an effort/expense that I didn't particularly want to get into.

Yesterday, when I started the Jeep after work, the heated wheel came on automatically (under 40 degrees) and stayed on until I got home. Today, it was back to not working.

So, does the fact that it did work this one time mean that the problem might be something more minor? If so, any ideas on where to start looking?

Thanks!

Try turning it on from the touchscreen instead of using the button. If that works, there could be an issue with the physical button. Maybe a short in the wiring somewhere?

I have the 5" display - no such controls on that one.

Had the same thing happen on my '19 when I bought it used, it's not a whole steering wheel replacement.

The dealership replaced an "electronic control module" that is inside the steering wheel assembly.

Another good reason to update your Jeep to a 2024
Nah, can't stomach that new grill. Besides, my '18 is paid for and other than this inconvenience and a $7/10-minute canbus swap has been rock-solid reliable.
