Hey guys,

I have a 21 Rubicon 392 - Last month or so I noticed the heat will just randomly go out for either 30 seconds or a minute. Today it seemed to do it for a bit longer and eventually came back on by itself again.

I made an appointment with the service center where I purchased the Jeep from for next week.

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue and go in with a little knowledge on the situation.

Thanks !

Could it be Auto Mode cycling the speed/direction?

That is what I am thinking as well. I like the auto mode in the summer time, but in the winter when we are cold and trying to warm up, I like to control is manually until we are comfortable and then I'll hit Auto to maintain the temp.

I know it sounds kind of silly, but I wondered if you tried that first. If it is in Auto and having a hard time keep the temp where you set it, then I wonder if the little thermostat/sensor thing is going out or misreading something.

I just dropped my Rubi off to dealer with this issue (and they need to fix the freedom panel leaking). Some time and thats the problem, this only happen some times - its 40 degrees outside, HVAC on Auto, and I get cold ais blown at my face. Switch it to manual and its not a problem.

Someone on this forum said Jeep's heater is connected to the earth's core, thats right on manual mode. Auto mode has its own albeit faulty brain

No I never use auto mode. I'll be driving and the heats on the highest setting and working fine on low or middle fan speed (i never have it all the way up) and all the sudden the lovely cozy hot air goes away and i'm left with cold air till it decides to come back. lol

How frequently is it happening and how long does it last? There's what is called a "fresh air purge" where periodically and regardless of what setting it's on, ambient air will be pumped into the cabin to refreshen stale air. Sounds odd but all Wranglers (and many other vehicles) do it.

So for those that want to know what it was ...

The air directional door in the HVAC box was getting jammed while changing positions. This caused the air not to exit to the intended position. They removed the directional door motor and tried to get the door to release from the jammed position. Long story short the door was not correctly seated in the grooves properly. They disassembled and reassembled and once it was back together properly it now works perfectly :)

Glad they found it and fixed it. Could have been a "that's Normal".

G. ?
