Headliner Thoughts ----- Sound Off

The Willys has been murdered out with fresh 5% ceramic rear tint, ceramic windshield tint (free deal with new mopar glass) and 15% ceramic driver/passenger and today it hit only 80 degrees and yep, it's microwave hot inside of course due to the top.

Here in Southern AZ it's well over 100 degrees most of the year and I run a hardtop half the year.

So my question is, it worth running say a hothead headliner and does the velcro really stay attached 100+ degree normal temps? Your feedback on this subject is greatly appreciated!

I didn’t do hotheads as I found a complete Mopar set on Craigslist for $200 and jumped on them, so there might be some differences between my experiences and others.

one thing I did was to use sound deadening across much of the surface to be covered by the panel and made sure that the Velcro was adhered to the sound mat and not the room. This made for much stronger adhesion. The other thing is that the Velcro backing (the glue) is insulated from the heat of the roof, so it’s less likely to detach. You could try the same. And you get an added benefit of a much quieter ride.

I lived in Yuma, and even Yuma heat wouldn’t get my headliner to detach.

I noticed a difference just having the mopar liners in my last jeep vs the 1st one that didn't. When I bought my current jlurd, it didn't have them so I immediately ordered a set of Bedrug headliners. They attach with some seriously sticky tape. I'm not sure spending the extra $200 for Hotheads is worth it vs the ones I got. I'm pretty happy with mine.

I live in southern AZ. I installed the Hot Heads headliner with the rear side windows on my ‘21 JLURD the summer of 2021. My observation is the headliner did make a change to the interior temps and reduced the sound level. But, the pieces for the side rear windows did not want to stay on - kept drooping. I tried different methods to no avail. So last summer I took them out. The interior roof panels have stayed put with no problems.

I keep the hard top on year round.

I should have mentioned this was exactly my experience too, but the side rear window pieces are just cosmetic. In any event, the velcro back there stayed attached to the hardtop side for me, the two Velcro pieces just don't stay together for some weird reason.

I noticed less heat coming from the roof when I added Hothead Headliners to my JL. I'd do it again no question.

Same experience here as well with the side rear windows. I live in SW Ohio where we rarely see 100 degrees, but consistent 80s and 90s through the summer months. I suspect the side pieces won't stay attached in any environment.

Putting a layer of sound deadening where the Velcro attaches to the Jeep makes a huge difference. The adherence strength between the foil surface of the sound ceasing and the Velcro backing is much better than the surface of the Jeep's top. It also provides a bit of a thermal buffer and doesn't get quite as hot, so you get less softening from the glue.

Mine are stuck-stuck even on the hottest days. Not going anywhere.

Nice looking Jeep! I did the Mopar headliner with Hot Head Completion Kit. Been on 2+ years in Colorado. We see heat and cold, and no problems adhering at all. It's (very) important to follow instructions when installing, and wipe down the fiberglass with alcohol. But yes-do it. It makes a difference and you'll be glad you did.

I have mine from the factory they stayed put in Phoenix and Las Vegas heat this past summer ?

I had the factory headliners and also the HotHead "OEM Completion Kit" in my '19. Used in CT winters and in FL summers. No issues with either one. I removed the Hothead kit when I sold it and will definitely be re-installing when my order arrives. I reached out to them to ask what type of adhesive tape they used because I want to get a fresh piece on for the re-install. They told me it was 3M VHB. Bought a roll on Amazon.

I can't give before-and-after comparisons as my Sahara Altitude shipped with the MOPAR headliners, but I can say that it's survived two Texas Summers thus far and not showing any signs of velcro detaching, etc.

I went with Cover King. I installed sound deadening first then, installed the mat with supplied double sided tape and I added Barge multi-purpose cement between the recommended tape. It made a huge difference in acoustics and hot/cold temps on the interior. I've had it installed for over a year with no issues.
