As title suggests , my rear wiper does a very poor job at wiping the backglass.

The wiper arm obviously doesn’t put enough pressure on the wiper for a clean wipe.

I’m a bit reluctant to change the wiper arm, only to relive the same frustration. So before doing that, I’m wondering if there’s a trick this old monkey doesn’t know, like IDK, shortening the spring or switching for a stiffer one??? Or any gadget or aftermarket part that I’m unaware of.

Have you compared the pressure your rear wiper arm places on the rear glass to the pressure of other JLs?

If comparable maybe toughing up the wiper blade rubber with rubbing alcohol or a new blade, or treating the glass with Rain-X or other hydrophobic chemical might help.

Of course that's assuming what you're moving off the glass is more water than mud.

Give the pivot a shot of WD40 and then exercise it in. Should find after that that it works good. Our 18 has no issues as of right now. In the past on other vehicles I have had to give it a shot of WD40

Sometimes just pulling them away from the glass and snapping them back a few times does the trick - looks like your in a cold area so are you sure it just isn't an iced spring

Definitely gets worse as it gets colder. Anytime but winter isn’t a problem. Still doesnt make it right. Winter salty roads definitely are worse than any other dirty/wet roads in others seasons, except maybe for dirt/gravel roads, but I haven’t experienced them enough to notice.

Just thought I'd update my rear wiper situation.

I removed the rear wiper arm and blade, removed the spring, bent the long arm part of the spring to make it shorter and therefore apply more pressure, reinstalled with a lot of difficulty (still have the marks to testify to that :)), lubed all the pivot points of the wiper blade and wiper arm and now it works perfectly.
