Hi everyone! Quick question for the group regarding a grill removal on a 2018 JLU. I have a winch installed and I'm wondering how much travel is needed to clear the bottom clips on the grill. I really don't want to remove the winch and I'm hoping that I have enough space to pull the bottom of the grill to release the lower clips. Thanks in advance!

Very responsible of you to ask first. I'd just start yanking it out and see if it clears =)

I bet you need to be able to pull it out a good 1/2 inch. Hopefully I'm wrong tho.

Unfortunately my bumper & winch sets fairly tight against the grill. If I have to remove it. It's 8 bolts for the bumper, I stack cinder blocks and wood and slide the bumper off winch and all.

Someone posted the lights could be accessed from the inside, no need to remove anything. I have not done this yet.

A pic of the gap between the winch and grill might help, it doesn’t have to move forward much.

I have the same problem. If you can get it out there is a hack to make it easier. When you remove it cut the clips off on the middle bottom, and the next time it will be super easy to remove.

Quick question for the group regarding a grill removal on a 2018 JLU. I have a winch installed and I'm wondering how much travel is needed to clear the bottom clips on the grill.
In practical terms, figure 1 inch. That said, the clips are seated fairly snugly, meaning the actual required travel, or movement, will necessarily be longer in relation to the force you'll need to apply to unseat the clips from the corresponding sockets.

What you might consider doing is removing the six reusable pins from the top of the grille, after which, with the top of the grille now pulled out as far as safely possible, reach down and attempt to push/pry the lower clips out with a pry bar or similar. Work from behind instead of pulling from the front. This method would allow you to leverage the limited working space (caused by the winch installation) to the extent possible.

Thanks! This method crossed my mind earlier. Seems like a good way to go.
